Let's say you decide to do a good deed and rescue the rabbit--then what? Here are ways to find a home for a rescued rabbit.

Instructions

1. Search Petfinder.com, your local Craigslist and local newspaper to see if anyone has placed an ad for a lost rabbit in your vicinity. Sometimes, pet rabbits just get away.

2. Put signs up in your neighborhood titled "Found Rabbit" in visible letters. If there is a response, make sure to verify that they are, indeed, the owners. Ask them to describe the rabbit.

3. Place a free ad in the "lost and found" sections of Petfinder and Craigslist describing the rabbit, just in case his family is looking for him.

4. If there is no response, place free ads (including a photo of the rabbit) on Craigslist, Petfinder.com and AdoptaPet.com. They all require that you charge an adoption fee to deter unscrupulous adopters. Petfinder will allow you to list an ad in their classified section and Adopt a Pet won't let an individual list a pet up for adoption, so you will need to contact a local shelter or rescue group and see if they will list your rabbit under their name. Most will be glad to. There are also rescues specifically for rabbits. If there is a rabbit rescue in your area, contact them first.

5. Place an ad in your local newspaper's pet section. Be sure to charge an adoption fee and make sure to screen any potential adopters to ensure the rabbit is going to a safe home.

6. Place flyers with the rabbit's picture at veterinarian's offices, pet supply stores and on other community bulletin boards that feature pets up for adoption.

7. If you have no luck finding a home for the rabbit, contact a local rabbit rescue and see if they have any suggestions. Rescues are normally too full to take on more pets, but you never know what type of advice they'll be able to offer. Also contact any no-kill shelters in your area and see if they can take your rabbit or have another alternative. As a last resort, take the rabbit to a city or county shelter, but keep in mind they will euthanize the rabbit if the rabbit isn't adopted within a certain amount of time. A shelter, however, is safer than the streets, and at least the rabbit will have somewhat of a chance.

His low-set ears are thin. His tail tapers to a point and his legs are long with the hind legs muscular. The smooth dark coat is short and dense.

American Black and Tan Coonhound

One of the larger of the coonhounds, the Black and Tans are marked like a Doberman in black and tan, though mostly black. The tan markings are on the muzzle, legs and chest. They are smaller than bloodhounds, but their long ears and predominant lips make them look similar. The Black and Tan's hanging ears are set low.The muzzle is long and the long head is oval, the stop halfway between the nose and the back of the head. His eyes are round and dark brow to as light as hazel. The legs are long and straight. The wide nose is black.

Bluetick Origins

The Bluetick coonhound was bred from a number of breeds, including foxhounds, English coonhound and French hounds. American hunters found the ancestors too slow for long trails and began working for a faster breed. They mixed the European breeds with American hounds and made better hunters for their needs.

Black and Tan Origins

Talbot hounds, Virginia fox hounds and bloodhounds are believed to be the ancestors of Black and Tan coonhounds. The Talbot is a very old English breed. The Black and Tan is one of the oldest breeds developed in the U.S. and were used by trappers as well as other hunters.

Skills

The Black and Tan coonhound will stay on track under all conditions. He still is used mainly to track and tree raccoons. Blueticks have endurance and are known for skill at cold hunting. Blueticks have a hunting dog's bawl. Both dogs are strong and agile, and good scenters.

Bornean Orangutan

Just east of Sumatra across the South China Sea, the Bornean orangutans inhabit much of the northern and western parts of the island. Like the Sumatran orangutan, this species also lives in the many types of forests found on the island.

Role in their Habitat

Both species of orangutan are considered keystone species, according to the Environmental Investigation Agency. As keystone species, the mammals play a large role in their habitat's design. They disperses seeds throughout the forest when eating fruits and trim trees when eating leaves and making nests. Without the orangutans, their habitat would change dramatically.

2. Put the parakeet into the traveling cage, but don't shut the door. Allow it to get familiar with the cage so it is comfortable when traveling. 3. Cover the cage with a blanket when going outside to protect birds from cold temperatures or allergens they aren't used to. Parakeets are tropical birds and they can die from cold weather. If the bird is sick, you don't want it exposed to diseases from other animals, or to expose other animals to it. Warm up a vehicle in advance if the outside temperature is lower than 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

4. Place the cage on the floor of the vehicle to minimize the risk of the cage tipping over, falling, or being knocked over. The floor is the safest place for the bird to be, but it should not be next to any type of vent that is blowing out hot or cold air. If the floor is not safe, put the bird in the back seat so it doesn't distract the driver.

It is completely normal for the first two or three days if they eat very little or even nothing at all and sleep most of the time. Female cats with young kittens won't be as hostile to them as they can smell that they are no longer able to reproduce. Because female cats have stitches on their stomachs, they will undoubtedly try to lick the wound regularly and may even rip their stitches out. If they are only a couple of days from having them removed anyway, then this isn't usually a problem. Although if the wound is infected, hasn't healed yet or the stitches are ripped out quickly, then a neck cone might be necessary. These are available from the veterinarian's office, and stops the cat from being able to reach its stitches.

5. Usually after a couple of days, a cat will begin to eat normally and will slowly start to become more active. One thing to look out for is if you have other kittens in the house, then the newly fixed female cat will start to look after them as if they were her own. This is usually harmless enough, but if she still has stitches, then the tiny claws of nursing kittens can rip them out.

Instructions

1. Contact shelters in your area to determine if they've found your dog. Many shelters will post information online about recently found dogs, so check with the shelter two or three times a day to keep informed on what dogs are being brought in.

2. Visit the shelter to see the dogs in person. Speak with a shelter worker and explain that you are looking for your dog. Provide her with a description or, ideally, a picture of your lost pet so that she can determine if your dog is there.

3. Look over any dogs the shelter might think are yours to make sure you've found your pet. Speak softly, calling your dog by his name and holding your hand out so he can sniff you. Many lost dogs are very frightened while confined in the shelter, so be calm and patient while checking over your dog.

4. Fill out any appropriate release forms required by the shelter. You will need to have any identifying information for your dog, such as registration papers, vet records and microchip registration if your dog has a chip. Care For Silver Foxes

Russian silver foxes have been domesticated and can become the next pet for your family. A breeding program to tame the silver fox started in Russia 50 years ago and has produced a fox that is friendly to humans and has doglike characteristics. They will become attached to a human owner, and even wag their tails when happy. Domesticated silver foxes are not aggressive, but they can be a handful and are not for the unprepared. They also do not come cheap. Silver foxes must be imported from Russia or Scandinavia and can cost about $7,000.

Instructions

1. Verify that your state allows ownership of Russian domesticated silver foxes. Consult the exotic pet laws to see whether there is an ownership ban or you need a license. If it is allowed, order a silver fox directly from an importer, such as Sibfox. Email the company and request a contract.

2. Get shots for the fox. Several vaccinations are required for the silver fox, including those for rabies, plague and salmonella. Check with your importer to see which shots have been administered before exportation and ask for records. Confer with your veterinarian about any remaining vaccinations. Follow up with the vet periodically to ensure the long-term health of the animal.

3. Arrange the fox's living area. Foxes can live indoors or outdoors, though it's best to house them in a large wire animal cage with a bottom outside your home. 5. Exercise the fox daily. Walking the fox should be a routine like walking the dog. Silver foxes are energetic and playful, and proper exercise and rest is required. In the Kennels

No previous experience or training is necessary to work as an animal care technician, though most animal shelters prefer to hire people who have handled animals before. Kennel supervisors are generally hired based on prior experience as an animal care technician. Some clinics also have a groomer on staff. Groomers usually are trained in certificate programs or apprenticeships.

The Vet Clinic

Large rescue organizations may have a vet clinic as part of their facilities. Usually the vets volunteer their time or are paid on a daily rate, but vet technicians and vet assistants may be part of the vet clinic's staff. Vet technicians must have a certification from an accredited two-year program. There are certification programs for vet assistants, but most are trained by their employers.

Investigation

Animal control and humane investigator positions usually require no more than a high school diploma; however, these are positions for which previous animal experience is preferred. Administration

Administration is where positions vary the most in education requirements. Considerations

Many factors weigh in when trying to determine the adult size of a poodle, especially the size of the parents, the breed standards and the pecking order of the litter, among other considerations.

Genetics

Parental size has more to do with how large the offspring will be than any other factor. Genetics is the one indicator that cannot be altered. Many dogs may be significantly larger or smaller than the breed standards depending on the size of the parents. A simple explanation of how genetics work will illustrate this topic.

Each cell in the dog's body has two strands of DNA. One strand is donated by the father and the other strand is donated by the mother. Every characteristic of the puppy in question is represented by one gene on each strand of DNA. Each gene will have either a dominant or recessive trait coded into it.

The puppy will take on the physical characteristics of whichever parent is holding the dominant gene for size. Therefore, the puppy's adult size will resemble one of its parents. The only variable to this is if both parents are carriers of a recessive size gene and that combination ends up in the puppy. If that is the case, the puppy will most likely not look like either parent, but more like a previous generation. The good news is that the odds of this combination occurring are rare and the exception rather than the rule.

Breed Standards

Another good indicator of size is the breed standard. All purebred dogs have a breed standard that most owners can use when it comes to anticipating characteristics such as size and temperament. The standard is only a guide, though, and can only be used to gain an overall picture of how large the adult will be. Dogs, like humans, are individuals, and physical characteristics can vary widely from the standard, especially if breeding occurs indiscriminately. The other factor is that the shih tzu/poodle cross is not a purebred dog and no breed standard exists, though you can get a pretty good idea of where the puppy should end up by reviewing the standards for both breeds. A shih tzu will usually weigh in the neighborhood of 10 to 16 lbs. when fully grown, and the poodle comes in slightly smaller. It's probably a pretty good bet that the cross will be somewhere around 12 to 15 lbs.

Nutrition

Lastly, nutrition at infancy will be a strong indicator of how large the pup will grow. Larger, more aggressive puppies will usually receive more of the mother's milk and will grow larger and more quickly because of it. Weaker pups will not grow as large because they will not have received as much nutritional support.

Average Size

Taking into account the breed standards for shih tzus and poodles, and assuming the parents are of average size and build, the average shih tzu/poodle cross should weigh between 10 and 20 lbs, making it the ideal size for most households.

Instructions

1. Take the dog to an area where there is not a lot of noise. This could be a quiet pool or the shallow part of a lake. Dogs will have difficulty concentrating or may get nervous if there is a lot of noise and activity nearby.

2. Put the lifejacket on the dog. While it is not required, it allows the human helper to take their hands off the dog during the lessons without fear of drowning. It also prevents accidental drowning in later lessons if a dog is in the water without a helper swimming nearby.

3. Enter the pool or shallow lake. If the dog is learning to swim in the pool, first acquaint him with the entrance to the pool. Continually put him in the pool at the same spot and help him walk down steps if there are any.

4. Hold the dog's midsection and hindquarters and allow him to paddle using all four legs. Make sure he is not just using his front two legs -- otherwise he will sink on his own. It should look like he is running. His rear end should extend up and his neck should point down. Using food as a reward may help get him into this position.

5. Continue the lesson for another 10 minutes. Use rewards to show good behavior and talk using an upbeat and positive voice.

6. Show the dog exit the pool or shallow lake. This is especially important in the pool since getting out using steps or a ramp may be the easiest or only way for the dog to exit. Spend time reinforcing the exit process.

7. Wash the dog off with shampoo after the swimming lessons. Dry out his ears and check his eyes for irritation from the chlorine as well.
