Instructions

1. Look at the dog's overall appearance. The Australian Cattle Dog is a working breed with a compact body. They are muscular and athletic. Build A Cheap Rabbit Hutch

Whether you have a budding 4-H interest or are just looking for an outdoor home for your furry family friend, a homemade rabbit hutch will be much cheaper than one available at a big box retailer or pet store. These units can be built to house one or more rabbits depending on your needs. When trying to do this on the cheap it is important not to skimp on the framing materials. A solid frame is the difference between a solid hutch and a flimsy one.

Instructions

Constructing the Frame

1. Cut four 4-foot 2-by-4s with the circular saw.

2. Cut eight 2-by-4s to 2 feet in length.

3. Nail the 4-foot and 2-foot pieces together in butt joints with 3-inch nails to create two 4-foot-by-2-foot 2-inch rectangles. This requires the 2-by-4s to be laid so the 4-inch side is flat to the ground and the 2-foot pieces are joined to the interior of the 4-foot pieces.

4. Nail the four remaining 2-foot pieces to the interior joint on the 4-foot boards. Make sure the 4-inch width is facing to the front and back of the hutch and not to the 2-foot sides. Use 3-inch nails for this as well.

5. Flip the frame over and slip the 2-foot supports inside the remaining base rectangle.

6. Nail the supports to the frame in the same fashion as the first set.

Adding Walls to the Frame

7. Cut two 2-foot-by-2-foot 2-inch sections of 3/4-inch OSB.

8. Nail the OSB to both ends of the the hutch. Put 3-inch nails every 3 inches to secure the walls in place.

9. Cut a 2-foot-by-4-foot OSB board and attach it to the back of the hutch in the same manner.

10. Cut off 4 feet of the 2-foot chicken wire with wire cutters. Attach this to the bottom of the hutch with industrial staples along the underside perimeter of the base. Cover this chicken wire with a loose piece of hardware cloth.

11. Cut a 2-foot square piece of chicken wire and attach it to the right side of the top of the hutch with industrial staples along the top perimeter.

12. Cut a 2-foot square piece of OSB and attach it opposite the chicken wire on the top of the hutch. Use 3-inch nails every 3 inches.

13. Cut two 3-foot, 10-inch 1-by-2s and two 2-foot 1-by-2s. Use butt joints and 3-inch nails to join these pieces into a 3-foot, 10-inch-by-2-foot rectangle.

14. Cut a piece of 1-foot, 11-inch-by-2-foot chicken wire and attach it to the outside right-hand side of the new rectangle. Use industrial staples every 3 inches to secure.

15. Cut a piece of 1-foot, 11-inch-by-2-foot OSB and attach it opposite the chicken wire. Use 3-inch nails every 3 inches. This will finish off the door component.

16. Attach this frame to the front of the hutch with two hinges. Nail 1-inch nails through the upper hinge piece to the top hutch frame and through the lower hinge piece to the top of the door.

17.Install the eye hook lock at the bottom center of the door to keep the door from being pushed open.

Finsihing the Install

18. Flip the hutch over so the top is on the ground.

19. Cut four 4-foot 2-by-4s for the legs.

20. Nail these legs to the interior of the frame with 3-inch nails.

21. Flip the hutch back over and make sure it is level.

Owners of dogs that are defined as pit bulls must follow the regulations and requirements.

Liability Insurance Requirements

Anyone living in Ohio who wishes to own a pit bull must purchase liability insurance that covers damages caused by the dog. The state requires a minimum of $100,000 liability coverage on those who own a pit bull, keep pit bulls in their property or harbor a pit bull in the state. The liability insurance covers bodily injury, property damage and death of anyone attacked by the dog. Failure to obtain insurance will result in penalties.

Penalties

Pit bull owners in Ohio who do not have the appropriate liability insurance can be fined and in some circumstances the state can remove the dog from the household. Write Off Pet Medical On Your Taxes

You may see your pet as a member of the family, but the tax code doesn't treat it like one.

Caring for a pet can be expensive, especially when the animal has a medical condition that requires frequent visits to the veterinarian or costly medication. Unfortunately, you can't write off pet medical expenses on your taxes. However, tax law does allow deductions for veterinary care for certain working animals, including guide dogs.

Policy

Taxpayers who itemize their deductions are allowed to deduct medical and dental expenses above a certain amount. IRS Publication 502 lists dozens of health-related items, services and procedures and identifies whether they qualify as medical expenses eligible for the deduction. Only medical care for yourself, your spouse and the dependents you claim on your tax return is eligible. The publication says veterinary fees "generally" cannot be included in medical expenses.

Exception

Though the IRS doesn't allow deductions for companion animals, it makes an exception for working animals. If you have a medical condition that requires you to use a service animal -- such as a guide dog if you are blind -- then you can include in your medical expenses the cost of caring for that animal. This is because the animal is considered part of your own medical treatment. You can include all costs related to it -- not just veterinary bills, but also the costs of acquiring, training and maintaining the animal.

Limit

Even if the cost of care and maintenance for your service animal qualifies as a medical expense for tax purposes, the amount you can actually deduct is limited. The deduction for medical and dental expenses applies only to total costs greater than 7.5 percent of your adjusted gross income. For example, if your adjusted gross income is $50,000, then 7.5 percent would be $3,750. If you had a total of $3,000 in medical and dental expenses, including care for a service animal, then you could not take a deduction. But if the total were $5,000, then you could take a deduction of $1,250.

Businesses

Business owners can write off medical expenses for working animals that are integral to their business. Entrepreneur magazine cites the example of a guard dog that protects a business's property. A company that raises dogs and trains them to be services animals may also be able to deduct veterinary bills. But these costs would be deducted as business expenses rather than medical expenses.

Legislation

In 2009, Republican congressman Thaddeus McCotter of Michigan proposed legislation to allow taxpayers to deduct up to $3,500 a year for pet-care expenses, including medical bills. McCotter named his bill the "Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years Act" -- or, the "HAPPY Act." The bill was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee, which never acted on it.

Instructions

Ladder Method

1. Place a ladder against the tree and attempt to remove the cat yourself. This is not advisable if the cat is on an extremely high branch or if the climber is not capable physically.

2. Place an old mattress or an inflatable pool under the tree below the cat. This will give the cat a soft place to fall.

3. Wear work gloves and a long-sleeved shirt. The cat will more than likely resist the removal process and the covering will help protect you from being scratched.

4. Ascend the ladder until you are as close to the cat as possible, while still being safe. Lure the cat over to you with a treat. Choose something that is the cat's favorite.

5. Grab the cat by the scruff of the neck once she is lured over. Carefully descend the ladder and take the cat indoors.

6. Attempt to lure the cat down with food. Talk to the cat and tell it that it is dinner time. Let the cat see you open the packaged cat food.

It also offers funds for starting, expanding or equipment purchases for high-volume spay/neuter clinics, in which a minimum of 75 percent of surgeries are performed on owned companion animals.

Second Chance Fund

Administered by the American Humane Association, the Second Chance Fund helps local nonprofit animal welfare agencies, including cat rescues, pay for veterinary treatment of abused or neglected animals that may later be adopted out. Grants are limited to $2,000 per rescue per year. Funds cannot pay for routine procedures, including spaying and neutering, micro-chipping or vaccinations. A puppy's senses are developed one at a time. A puppy learns about the world by smell first, then by sight and finally their ears become in-tune with the world around them. However, this behavior can cause puppies to bite objects that are undesirable or unsafe. Mouthing, chewing and biting can be stopped easily if the behavior is consistently corrected and replaced with a new behavior.

Instructions

1. Put the collar on the puppy with the leash attached. Let the puppy play with the leash trailing behind.

2. Watch the puppy carefully. As soon as she moves to bite the leash, command a firm "leave it" while leading the puppy away with the leash.

3. Immediately offer the puppy the chew toy. As soon as she shows any interest---even if she does not chew or lick it---praise her. Continue to praise her as she plays with and chews the toy.

4. Remind children who meet your puppy not to roughhouse or put their fingers in the puppy's mouth. Teach them to praise the dog if she licks them, but to perform steps one through three if she attempts to bite or chew.

5. Perform steps one through three every day for one week, before meals. Use meals as a reward after training. The puppy should learn quickly which behavior is desired and will slowly stop biting undesirable objects. While one week will not end the behavior forever, but the response after a week will be understood and obeyed more quickly. Continue training until the puppy has broken the unwanted behavior.

Identify Lynx Tracks

The lynx is a North American wildcat related to the bobcat. These species can be distinguished visually by noting a few features. The lynx appears larger because it has longer fur and stands taller, but it weighs the same as a bobcat. Lynx's have ruffs, or tufts of hair, on their face giving the appearance of a beard. You can identify them by the black markings on the tail tip and ears.

Instructions

1. Locate a set of tracks. Look in forests and especially at their edges for lynx tracks. While hunting, the lynx stays in the cover of the forest; but has easy access to its primary source of food, the snowshoe hare.

2. Identify the tracks as cat family, or feline, tracks as opposed to dog family, or canine, tracks. Canine tracks are longer than they are wide, while feline tracks appear round or wider than they are long. Canine tracks will usually show evidence of claws because they cannot retract theirs as cats can.

3. Examine the tracks to find out which species of cat made them. Thankfully, lynxes have large feet making their tracks recognizable. The feet are large to prevent the cat from sinking into the snow. Bobcats, with their smaller feet, will sink into deep snow. Due to the excess fur on the feet, toes do not often appear in lynx tracks.

Greyhounds are large, graceful dogs known around the world for being race dogs. Description

Temperament

Health Issues

Like most dog breeds, the greyhound is prone to some health problems. Because of their large chests, these dogs are prone to bloat, which can lead to death. Their thin, brittle bones make them susceptible to fractures and breaks.

Bichons have a fluffy, white fur that should be trimmed regularly.

The bichon frise is a small, nonsporting dog breed. The name is French for curly toy dog. The bichon frise has a double coat, the undercoat being softer and abundant, while the overcoat is coarse and curly. The coat of the bichon frise requires regular brushing and the hair is trimmed occasionally for dog shows. The trim of the coat underlines the contour of the body.

Instructions

1. Spray some conditioner over the dog's coat to ease the combing and brushing. Dilute the conditioner with water or use only water. A wet coat is simpler to comb.

9. Trim the tail of your bichon frise. The breed's short tail ends in a plume. The hair on the tail should be longer than the rest of the hair and you only need to remove odd hairs.

The U.S. federal government provides grant programs for individuals, local and state governments to erect storm shelters that meet federal building codes for safe rooms. The Animal Welfare Trust is "devoted to promoting the well-being of the animal community." Grants are offered primarily to organizations who aim to reduce animal suffering and cruelty through their work in the community. Others considered for grants are those organizations who help raise awareness in their respective communities regarding animal abuse, neglect and cruelty.

Because Florida is one of the many states that favors protecting the identities of both birth parents and adoptees, obtaining identifying information can be a lengthy, frustrating process, with no guarantee of success. In general, sealed birth and adoption records cannot be released or searched unless both adult adoptees and birth parents have signed an authorized written release of identifying and contact information. However, there are steps you can take to obtain information to take your search further.

1. Contact the Florida Department of Health about the possibility of opening the adoption or birth records. If provided with "good cause" in a petition by an adopted adult or birth parent, Florida courts may allow adoption records to be opened.
