Get Rid Of Fleas On Your Dog

Bathing your dog is part of a flea-treatment regimen, but don't overdo it..

About 100 million years ago, along with the dinosaurs and reptiles, mammals were coming into existence. Fleas came along for the ride and have been an irritant ever since. They can wreak havoc on your dog's homeostasis with their biting and subsequent itching and irritation, infecting your dog with tapeworms and making him anemic. According to HealtyPet.com, a female flea can eat "15 times her own body weight in blood every day." To get rid of fleas, you need a multipronged approach.

Instructions

1. Treat your yard for fleas aggressively. There are many products on the market for yards big and small, and most of them are highly effective in treating your yard and garden for fleas. Because your dog probably spends at least part of his day in your yard, it's important to make sure that it is tick- and flea-free. According to the Ohio State University Extension, it is best to use a product such as Delta Gard, Sevin, Baygon, Knox Out 2FM or Ficam. Also treat kennels, crawlspaces and other areas your pet frequents. When mowing your grass, use your garden hose to saturate the area, which will bring fleas and their eggs to the surface. You may need to treat more than once.

2. Apply or give your dog a flea prevention product on a regular basis. There are many such products on the market. Topical flea prevention products such as Revolution, Ecto-Advantage, K-9 Advantix, Frontline Plus, Advantage and Vectra S-D are applied as drops to your dog's neck. They work by absorption into the bloodstream, and the fleas then ingest the chemicals when they feed. Other flea preventatives are given orally, as a tablet or chewable. These products include Comfortis, Sentinel and Capstar. New in 2011 is Trifexis, a chewable tablet that not only prevents fleas and ticks but heartworms and intestinal parasites such as hookworms, roundworms and whipworms too. Dr. Khangura, of Dr. K's Animal Hospital in Jupiter, Florida, recommends this product because he has seen how effective it is in his patients and it obviates the monthly heartworm and deworming preparations.

3. Launder your pet's bedding, and sprinkle areas of your house with a flea powder or spray. These products are highly effective at eliminating fleas from your home and are purchased wherever pet supplies are found. If you prefer a toxin-free product, OldFashionedLiving.com recommends sprinkling boric acid around the carpet, floorboards and other places where fleas hide. Salt and diatomaceous earth could be worth a try as well. These products kill fleas by dehydrating them.

Get Meuka In Neopets

Meuka

In the interactive online world of Neopia, users can play games, explore, complete quests and battle their Neopets against challengers in the Neopets Battledome. Certain Neopets challengers, such as the infamous Meuka, require users to perform specific tasks before they will challenge them in the Battledome. Meuka, a Neopet made entirely of mucus, will only challenge your Neopet in the Battledome once your Neopet has been infected with either Neoflu or Sneezles.

Instructions

1. Buy a Ferocious Negg to feed to your Neopet. In Neopets, a Ferocious Negg is an expensive item that can be fed to your Neopet to increase its strength by two to four points while also making your Neopet ill. The Ferocious Negg can cause a wide variety of illnesses, but if you're lucky, your Neopet will come down with Neoflu or Sneezles. Ferocious Neggs can be obtained from the Neggery for around 125 Neopoints.

2. Spin the Wheel of Misfortune and hope your Neopet contracts Neoflu or Sneezles. The Wheel of Misfortune is one of the most common ways that Neopets contract Neoflu or Sneezles in Neopia. Before heading to the Wheel of Misfortune, take all of your valuable items out of your inventory, bank all but 100 of your Neopoints and choose a Neopet that has not yet learned read to be your active pet. After that, step up to the Wheel of Misfortune and give it a good spin. If you're lucky, the misfortune you receive will be a bad case of either Neoflu or Sneezles.

3. Wait for your Neopet to be infected with Neoflu or Sneezles through a random event. A random event is the most common way that Neopets contract Neoflu and Sneezles in Neopia. There are five types of random events: Good, Bad, Pointless, Winter Events and Tyrannian Events. Since you want your Neopet to come down with Neoflu or Sneezles, you want a "Bad" event.

4. Try using the Wheel of Excitement to infect your Neopet with Neoflu or Sneezles. The Wheel of Excitement game awards good and bad luck events and items, depending on where the wheel stops. The Wheel of Excitement often awards bad luck events in the form of illnesses. Two of the illnesses you may possibly catch from the Wheel of Excitement are Neoflu and Sneezles.

5. Use the Wheel of Monotony to try and infect your Neopet with Neoflu or Sneezles. The Wheel of Monotony game in Neopets awards players with random events and prizes. It's possible to contract Neoflu or Sneezles from the Wheel of Monotony in the form of random events.

Adopt Local Siberian Husky Puppies In Florida

There are many Siberian husky puppies in need of adoption.

According to the American Kennel Club, the Siberian husky has an "agreeable and outgoing temperament [which] makes it a great all-around dog, suitable for anything from sledding to therapy work." It is a member of the working group and has a strong prey drive so should have plenty of exercise and supervision around small animals. New owners to this breed should be prepared for a lot of shedding year-round, due to the husky's double coat. It is recommended to provide basic obedience training for this breed while it is a puppy because huskies typically grow to weigh up to 60 lbs. and have strong pulling instincts. There are many Siberian huskies available for adoption at various animal shelters and Siberian husky rescue groups in Florida.

Instructions

1. Locate an animal shelter in your area or call either the Siberian Husky Rescue of Florida or the South Florida Siberian Husky Rescue to help locate a Siberian husky puppy available locally for adoption.

2. Travel to the local animal shelter that has Siberian husky puppies available for adoption. Choose the puppy that fits your family situation; for exampl, look for a puppy that gets along well with children and other pets if your family includes children and other pets.

3. Fill out necessary adoption paperwork, and pay the adoption fee to cover vaccination and spay/neuter costs. Take your new Siberian husky puppy home.

Play Wad Files From Sd Cards

WAD files are commonly backed up to SD cards.

A WAD file, or "Where's all the data" file, is used by the Nintendo Wii gaming system to store game information, game saves and sometimes entire games that are downloaded directly from Nintendo. In order to save space, WAD files are commonly backed up to SD cards. To play a WAD file that is saved on an SD card, use the "Wii Menu" to select it.

Instructions

1. Insert your SD card containing the WAD file that you wish you play into your Nintendo Wii's SD card slot. This slot is located on the front of the gaming console.

2. Use the Wii Remote to select the "SD Card Menu" from the "Wii Menu." The "SD Card Menu" is found in the lower left-hand corner of the main menu. Press the "A" button to select it and open the contents of your SD card.

3. Highlight the WAD file that you wish to open with the Wii Remote and press the "A" button to select it.

4. Select "Start" with the Wii Remote and press the "A" button to play the WAD file.

Master Animal Crossing On Nintendo Ds

If you're seeking an entertaining, no-pressure game for the Nintendo DS, look no further than Animal Crossing. It's easy to play the simulated reality-type game, but your real-time quest for a bigger house, a perfect town and items galore will keep you glued to the DS as you master the game.

Instructions

1. Master the playing instructions found in your Animal Crossing Wild World instruction booklet so you'll be able to move onto more advanced game play. Grow accustomed to daily town life and basic controls for running, pulling weeds, talking to animals, buying and selling goods, writing letters and planting flowers, for example.

2. Build the biggest house by continuously earning enough bells to pay off your latest mortgage to Tom Nook. After six expansions, you'll make your way up to a mansion featuring five rooms plus the save room.

3. Spend enough bells in Tom Nook's shop and have another player visit your town to purchase one item to expand the store. You'll make your way from Nook's Cranny to Nook 'n Go to Nookway to the store's largest incarnation, Nookingtons (complete with a second floor and Harriet's beauty parlor).

4. Customize your town tune (by talking to Pelly or Phyllis in the Town Hall), town flag (by talking to Booker at the Town Gate) and clothing (by talking to Mabel in the Tailor's Shop).

5. Create a town filled only with the animals you like. Keep your favorites by talking them out of moving and get rid of the others with a hasty "goodbye" when they discuss leaving.

6. Fill the Fossil, Bug, Fish and Art exhibits in the Museum. You must dig up fossils (three appear in your town each day) and have them appraised by Blathers before donating them to the museum. Catch, find, purchase or receive the other items as gifts and donate them to the museum as well.

7. Complete your catalog. Simply pick up a piece of furniture or clothing, for example, to add it to your store catalog. You can then order the items through Tom Nook. Be aware though, that you can't purchase specialty items (like the Snowman furniture series) even if they appear in your catalog.

8. Obtain the golden tools like the slingshot, fishing rod and bug catching net. Each is a reward for reaching a specific goal (such as shooting down 15 presents with a regular slingshot or catching one of every fish and bug in the game) and will make working with those tools easier. The golden slingshot, for instance, shoots three rocks instead of one.

9. Earn a perfect town rating by keeping it clean and having plenty of flowers, 8 villagers and the correct number, location and spacing of trees. You won't be told the exact number, but ask Pelly or Phyllis in the Town Hall about the "Environment" to determine if trees need to be added or removed. You'll need to experiment by planting or removing trees in different areas and asking again until they tell you the town is perfect.

Help A Cat Pass A Kitten

Be ready when it's time for kittens to arrive.

If your cat is pregnant, she will normally not need much help to give birth. Most likely, she will only require a comfortable, quiet place and perhaps some thoughtful attention when it's time for her kittens to arrive. However, you should be prepared to help her pass the kittens in order to reduce the risk of problems during the birthing process.

Instructions

1. Make a safe, warm nest for your cat to have the kittens. For example, put a box in a closet and fill it with blankets or towels. Place your cat's favorite toys around the box, or put her in the box so she becomes familiar with the nest.

2. Monitor your cat closely around the time she's ready to give birth. According to the website My Healthy Cat, labor can begin anywhere between 61 and 70 days from the date she got pregnant.

3. Watch for signs that your cat is going into labor. Labor can last anywhere from six hours to an entire day. She may be showing signs of restlessness or doing a lot grooming, pacing, purring or crying. Pet your cat and offer food to help reduce any anxiety or pain she may be experiencing.

4. Look for the head of the first kitten coming out of the birthing canal. Kittens are normally born head-first, but feet-first deliveries are not necessarily abnormal. Do not touch the vaginal area to help the cat. She should lick away the membrane around the kitten's body and face after it is born, so it can start breathing. The rest of the kittens may come quickly or not for a while. It can take up to 24 hours for all of the kittens to be delivered. Offer your cat some food and water during this period; she will need nourishment to keep up her strength.

5. Avoid moving the umbilical cords attached to the kittens, because you may harm their internal organs. Watch for signs of complications. If your cat has contractions for longer than 60 minutes without producing a kitten, take her immediately to the vet.

6. Allow the cat to eat the umbilical cord, because it is a part of the birthing process. The new kittens should start mewing a few minutes after being born. They should also immediately go to their mother to suck her nipples.

Amend A Birth Certificate After Adoption

Parents have many reasons for needing to amend their child's birth certificate. One of the most important reasons is to put their own names in place of the biological parents' names after finalization of adoption. This is an important step so the new parents can show legal proof for purposes of making decisions on behalf of their child. Whether the child is adopted through a private adoption agency or through a state child protective services agency, this step is necessary.

Instructions

1. Keep the official adoption paperwork that was signed by the judge who presided at your child's adoption. You will need this order so you can successfully change your new child's birth certificate to reflect your names and have the biological parents' names removed. (Read the language in the adoption court order and make sure it includes an order to amend your child's birth certificate to reflect your name(s) as parents.)

2. Visit your Public Health office, where you will request the birth certificate amendment paperwork. If this is not possible because you are too far from a public health office, contact the state office in your capital and request the paperwork, either in writing or by phone. You may also be able to access the public health office's website to download and print the necessary paperwork. See "Adoptions" link in Resources.

3. Fill the amendment paperwork out when you receive it; make sure all of the information you put in the paperwork is accurate and reflects exactly what is on the adoption papers. You do not want errors or inaccuracies to delay your child's birth certificate unnecessarily. (The birth certificate is considered "historical information about the birth.") Make a legible copy of the adoption order. See "Changing" link in Resources.

4. Keep in mind that your state may have specific deadlines for amending birth certificates. Do not delay this step in finalizing your child's assimilation and welcome into your home. Find out your state's deadline---ask the receptionist or customer service representative about any potential deadlines and submit your paperwork well in advance of that deadline. See "Changing" link in Resources.

5. Sign and date the amendment application accurately. If you are married and your spouse is also adopting your child, make sure he or she signs and dates the application as well. Include a check or money order for the correct amount to ensure your child's birth certificate is processed with no unnecessary delays. Mail your application to your state's public health office.

Turn Your Laptop Into A High Frequency Dog Repellent

Use high frequency sounds to help to train your dog.

Dogs, especially puppies, can be destructive at times. When puppies are teething or dogs are bored, they may decide to chew on inappropriate items. Dogs will get into things or get up on furniture. If you want to find a humane way to keep your dog away from a spot in your house, look no further than your laptop. By downloading high frequency sound files, turn your laptop into a dog repellant and train your dog to stay away from such items.

Instructions

1. Go to an audio downloading site that offers high frequency sound files. Sites such as Jet City Orange, Free Sound Project and Sound Bible have audio files that are comparable to a dog whistle (see Resources).

2. Search for high frequency files in the search space. Find one that your dog can hear, but that doesn't bother anyone else in the household too much.

3. Save the MP3 or WAV file on your hard drive. You can play the file when you need to.

4. Tell your dog "No" when he is misbehaving, getting into things or trying to get on the furniture. Follow up with a clip of the high frequency audio file.

5. Continue training your dog by playing the audio file when he is near whatever you want to repel him from. It won't take long before the audio repellant is no longer needed and the verbal command is enough.

Post Free Ads For Pets

You can post free classified ads for your pets online.

If you have a pet you can't take care of any more and want to find a good home for, there are numerous places to post free ads. First you should write a few words about your pet, including its age, sex, size and variety, and then should take a few photos. Save a copy of your ad for future reference or if you need to post your ad at more than one location. The more places you post your ad, the more likely you are to find a new home for your pet.

Instructions

1. Type your ad in a word processor, including all the relevant information about your pet and how other people can get in contact with you, and save the ad to your computer. Add some photos to the ad and print out several copies.

2. Post the ad at various bulletin boards close to where you live, such as those in laundromats, grocery stores or libraries.

3. Go online to a website such as USFreeAds, Craiglist or eBay Classifieds, where you can place free ad. Go to the Pets category and fill out all information in the website's online form, including the ad that you wrote earlier and digital photos of your pet, then post the ad online.

4. Sign up with online pet forums that allow you to advertise pet adoptions. These forums usually focus on one particular type of pet, such as cats, dogs, birds or small animals. Create a new post in the adoption forum including the information from your ad and the photo of your pet, if possible. Be sure to return to the forum to reply to any questions and respond to anyone who would like to adopt your pet.

Promote My Facebook Group On My Site

Whatever your interest, you can gain more group members by doing some creative advertising on your website.

For business owners and professionals, Facebook groups are one way to serve customers and provide a more in-depth conversation that is not open to all your friends on Facebook. If you're looking for more ways to promote your Facebook group -- beyond inviting the Facebook friends you already have to join in -- there are ways to promote the group on your website. This requires a bit of creativity and some savvy with the way your website operates. Keep in mind though that since a Facebook group does not have the same functionality as a Facebook page, how you can promote it is somewhat limited.

Instructions

Within your content

1. Navigate to the Home page for your Facebook group. Copy the URL for the group as it appears from the page.

2. Mention your Facebook group in any blog posts, articles or pages on your website. For example, you could say something like "The Facebook dog group I belong to does this every Friday."

3. Place a hyperlink in the text where you mention the group. Highlight the words "Facebook dog group," click the hyperlink button from the page's menu and paste in the URL you copied in the previous step into the "URL to link" box. Then people can navigate directly to your group's page from your blog post, article or page text.

Vaccinate Dogs With No Known Vaccination History

Vaccinating your dog will keep him safe from various contagious diseases.

Keeping your dog's vaccinations current is important in preventing him from catching certain diseases. You may not always know your dog's vaccination history, however, because you found him as a stray, or you adopted him from a local animal rescue agency. Unless the dog is microchipped or is otherwise identifiable, it may be impossible to find out the dog's vaccination history. It is safe to vaccinate a dog even if he has already been vaccinated, and in the case of dogs with unknown histories, it is absolutely necessary to keep him safe.

Instructions

1. Find a vet if you don't already have one. Visit the American Veterinary Medical Association's member directory for referrals (see Resources).

2. Make an appointment for your dog's first round of "core vaccinations." These vaccinations will fend off diseases that could be potentially fatal to a dog, are common and are highly contagious, including adenovirus-2 (hepatitis), distemper, parvovirus and rabies.

3. Schedule your dog's second round of vaccinations for adenovirus-2 (or hepatitis), distemper and parvovirus. Schedule a second rabies shot 1 year later. These booster shots will help boost your dog's immunity to these diseases. After these initial rounds of vaccinations, your dog should continue to get these essential vaccinations every 3 years.

4. Discuss noncore vaccinations with your dog's vet. These vaccinations are for diseases that are specific to your region, such as Lyme disease and leptospirosis, or diseases that your dog will be exposed to under certain circumstances, such as bordetella (kennel cough) if your dog will come into close contact with other dogs. These vaccinations may not be needed at all.

Polk County Florida Animal Control Regulations

Polk County's animal control ordinance requires guard dogs be treated humanely.

In 2010, Florida's Polk County Commission adopted an animal control ordinance covering requirements for vaccinations of dogs and cats, prohibiting animals from running loose, operation of a county animal shelter and other issues relating to domesticated animals. It applies only to unincorporated parts of the county.

Living Conditions

Dog owners must provide their pets with a covered shelter that protects them from bad weather.

Rabies

Owners of dogs and cats must get their pets vaccinated against rabies, and must purchase a license tag as evidence of vaccination.

Sterlization

Any pet picked up by animal control officers twice within an 18-month period for running loose must be spayed or neutered before being released to the owner by the county.

Running Loose

Owners of dogs and cats must not allow their pets to run loose in any public place or on another person's property.

Holding Periods

Animals picked up and turned in to county animal control will be held for the following periods: Healthy dogs and cats with current rabies vaccination, seven days; without proof of vaccination, four days. Sick or injured animals may be destroyed by animal control to prevent suffering of the animal. Animals held under quarantine will be considered abandoned if not picked up within three days after the quarantine period ends.

Nuisance Complaints

Under certain conditions and after sufficient warning, an animal control officer can issue a citation to the owner of a pet that has created a nuisance by constantly making noise, destroying property, soiling on private property or threatening to injure a person or animal.

Protect Endangered Animals

Around the world, habitats are being destroyed at an alarming rate, putting many wildlife species in danger of extinction. Threatened and endangered wildlife live in throughout the globe and you're likely to find some in your own backyard. To protect endangered animals, think both globally and locally.

Instructions

1. Find out what animals living near you are listed on the endangered species list. Spend some time learning about the animals and what their preferred habitat is.

2. Contribute to nature reserves and other wilderness areas. Habitat preservation is one of the best ways to help protect endangered animals. You can donate money or volunteer your time helping the nature reserve preserve habitat.

3. Buy environmentally friendly goods. Choose non-toxic cleaners and lawn care items that won't pollute streams, rivers or oceans. Avoid any products that have been made from threatened or endangered animals. Buy foods and goods that are made from materials that do not harm endangered animals or their habitat. For example, look for organic chocolate, coffee or cotton clothing that is grown without cutting down rainforests or destroying habitat.

4. Create or restore habitat for endangered animals. You can volunteer to help with projects worldwide designed to reestablish habitat. In your own backyard, plant a butterfly garden, use native plants and trees and let "wild" areas grow to provide habitat and food.

5. Join a local, national or global conservation organization. Some organizations focus on one particular endangered animal while others focus on broad efforts for all endangered species. You can "adopt" an animal through these organizations, which makes a great gift idea as well.

Different Types Of Chihuahua Puppies

There are only two officially recognized types of Chihuahua --- short-haired and long-haired.

Contrary to public belief, only two types of Chihuahua are officially recognized --- short-haired and long-haired. Although breeders will often advertise toy, teacup, miniature, apple-headed and deer-headed Chihuahuas, these are only generic descriptors and are not officially recognized as specific types of dog by the American Kennel Club in the United States or The Kennel Club in the United Kingdom. Any short-haired or long-haired Chihuahua can be described as any of these because these features are characteristics of the breed.

Short-haired Chihuahua

The most common form of Chihuahua, the short-haired Chihuahua has a short, smooth coat that does not require much grooming. These dogs come in many different colors and always weigh between 2 and 6 lbs.

Long-haired Chihuahua

A long-haired Chihuahua differs from a short-haired Chihuahua only because of the length of its coat. These dogs also weigh between 2 and 6 lbs. and come in different colors.

Common Traits

Common characteristics of the Chihuahua include its miniature size, making it the smallest of all toy breeds. All Chihuahua dogs have apple-shaped (also described as deer-shaped) heads with big eyes. These dogs get their reputation as "teacup dogs" because puppies are generally so small they can fit inside a teacup.

Potty Train An Italian Greyhound

Train your Greyhound to potty inside and outside

Italian Greyhounds are known for their small stature and slender build. This breed is believed to have originated over 2,000 years ago in areas today known as Turkey and Greece. On average, an Italian Greyhound weighs 10 lbs. and has a short coat, which can cause it to catch a chill easily. You can either take your Greyhound outdoors to potty, or utilize a puppy pad to train him during colder months.

Instructions

Outdoor Training

1. Keep your puppy kenneled at night because most puppies will not void where they sleep. Make sure the kennel is only large enough for the dog to turn around in or it could simply sleep on one end and potty on the other. Greyhounds are short haired and can become cold easily, so place a warm blanket in with the puppy to keep it warm at night. Do not leave the puppy in the kennel for more than a few hours at a time.

2. Take your puppy out to potty right after meals, after any exercise or playtime and right before bed. This routine will help keep you on track with taking the puppy outdoors.

3. Keep an eye on your puppy at all times. Do not let him roam around your home unsupervised for any extended length of time. If you cannot keep a close watch over your puppy, place him in the crate until you can pay attention once again.

4. Pay attention for signs that your Italian Greyhound may need to go outside. These signals could include sniffing, barking or circling, or your puppy may head to the door and wait for you to take it outside.

5. Clean up any messes that your puppy leaves in the house immediately. Your Greyhound will begin to void in the same spot in your home if he smells any remnants of urine or feces.

Indoor Training

6. Look for the signs mentioned above that your puppy needs to void.

7. Place the puppy onto the pad or inside the litter box when these signs are present, or about once an hour.

8. Keep putting the dog back onto the pad or into the box if he tries to move away until he has voided.

9. Praise your puppy and offer him a treat once the box or puppy pad has been successfully used.

Do A Sample Grant Proposal

Creating a sample grant proposal can help in a number of situations.

A grant proposal can be a daunting task. In one short document, the writer has to lay out everything that makes his application different from others. Many grant writers use sample proposals to help structure their work, while others may need sample proposals to apply for grant writing positions or simply as a sample of their work. Creating a good sample grant proposal requires as much care and attention as creating a real proposal.

Choosing a Scenario

Although sample proposals aren't actually intended to secure money for a new project, a good sample proposal should seem like the real thing. Most grant writers choose a fictitious project to use in their sample proposal; this allows them to demonstrate how the specifics of a proposal are written rather than relying on generalities. The first step in writing a sample is therefore to come up with a fictitious project needing external funding. When writing a sample for a specific field, it can be useful to create a fictitious project in the same field; if the audience for the sample will all be applying for an educational grant, for instance, the sample should be within the same field.

Organising the Sample

No single organizational template exists for grant proposals, but most samples will have some general similarities. Traditionally, a proposal begins with an abstract or summary, describing the project in a few sentences. The next section will contain information about the applicant, including history and expertise. From there, the sample should move on to a statement of need, describing how much money is needed and why. Finally, the sample proposal should discuss the desired outcome, explaining to the hypothetical funding body how the grant will benefit more than just the applicant.

Editorial Comments

A sample grant proposal can be not only evidence of a grant writer's abilities but also a teaching tool for aspiring grant writers. If a sample proposal is intended as an educational tool, it can benefit from short passages explaining the purpose of each section. For instance, the abstract of a sample proposal might include not only the abstract itself but also a short comment explaining the role of the abstract and giving some tips for creating an effective summary.

Preparing Additional Materials

A complete grant application consists of much more than just a proposal. Supporting documents may include financial statements, references from other funding bodies, academic studies, or any other document that supports the points made in the other sections of the sample proposal. Creating a large number of fictitious supporting documents is outside the scope of creating a sample proposal, but the proposal should at least include discussion of these documents in order to help prospective grant writers understand the levels of documentation necessary for many grants.

Colors Of Netherland Dwarf Rabbits

Compact bodies and small ears distinguish Netherland dwarf rabbits.

The Netherland dwarf is a breed of domesticated rabbit that was developed in Holland in the early 1900s and eventually became a sought after pet in the U.S. and other countries like the U.K. A compact body, small ears and soft fur make this breed a desirable pet. Though a lively, and sometimes unpredictable temperament make them less appropriate pets for small children. This breed's coat is short, soft and can come in a variety of colors. While some have Siamese type markings, others can range from white to shades of brown and gray. The American Rabbit Breeders Association recognizes five distinct color groups of Netherland dwarf rabbits.

Self Category

The Self category refers to a few different fur colors and includes ruby and blue-eyed versions of white-furred specimens. Rabbits with black and chocolate colored coats fall into this designation as well. Also included are varieties with blue or lilac shades of fur.

Shaded Category

The Shaded category includes Netherland dwarfs with Siamese markings. This type of Netherland dwarf has darker markings around areas of its body like the ears, face and tail. These types come in either sable or smoke pearl colors. The sable point variety is included in this group and has darker brown colors on the ears, nose, feet and tail. Tortoise shell coats are represented here as well, with their mottled mixture of orange and bluish black.

Agouti Category

A number of color types exist in this category that includes a chestnut brown variety. The opal type has a pale blue body of fur. Silvery-blue chinchilla and bluish-white squirrel color types also exist under this title. The lynx type is also listed under the agouti heading and has a white undercoat and bright orange topcoat.

Tan Pattern Category

Color varieties like tan are listed under this category. The otter type has orange-tan to cream colored markings on the face, neck and belly. Silver and smoke pearl marten types are also designated as tan patterns. Marten refers to silver-white colored markings that occur around the neck and behind the ears. The sable marten type is also a member of this category.

AOV Category

The AOV, or Any Other Variety, category includes colors like fawn, orange and steel. Broken fur types are under this listing as well, and refer to a spotted or blotchy appearance of the fur. The Himalayan type of Netherland dwarf also falls under the AOV category and is distinguished by its white body with black ears, paws and tail.

Good Dogs For Adoption

Dogs can make great pets at any age.

Consider all your options before choosing a dog to adopt. Don't choose a dog as a pet solely because of its aesthetic appeal or age. All dogs will require varying levels of care and attention. Research characteristics of breeds to develop a clear picture of the traits you want in a pet. Keep in mind too that many dogs are of a mixed variety, which can leave you with a variety of personality possibilities --- not to mention individual personality variation.

Agression

Ask to evaluate your possible new pet's aggressive tendencies. Watch the dog interact with other dogs during walks, playtime and feeding time. Dogs can exhibit aggressive behavior for a variety of reasons, often becoming aggressive when afraid or territorial over food, toys or land. If you plan to adopt from an animal shelter, the employees will have likely evaluated the dog already. Ask them about any aggressive tendencies they may have noticed.

Health

Look at vet records if they exist. Shelter pets will have most likely undergone a vet check prior to adoption. However, if you plan to adopt out of someone's home, you are playing a more risky game. Breeders sometimes have their dogs vet checked before making them available for adoption, but not always. Never adopt a dog that has discharge from the eyes, nose or mouth. Look for a clean and energetic dog, and avoid adopting dogs with obvious skin problems. If you choose to adopt a possibly unhealthy dog, be ready to pay the vet bills.

Training

If adopting an older dog, ask the previous owner or shelter employees about the extent of the dog's training. People give dogs away for a variety of reasons, sometimes having to give up a pet when changing residences. To make the adoption process easier on yourself, look for a housebroken, crate-trained and leash-trained dog at the very least. Inquire as to whether the dog digs holes, jumps fences or chews on household objects.

Special Needs

Some dogs, like people, have special needs, which can relate to health or physical disabilities such as an amputated leg. Dogs that have been abused may also have special needs. Abused dogs may become overly fearful or aggressive at the sight of some objects or situations. If you plan to adopt a dog you suspect may have been abused in the past, make an effort to learn about these specific situations before adoption so you can prevent an outburst.

Restaurants In Wildwood New Jersey

Wildwood is one of the more well-known shore towns.

There's no place quite like the Jersey Shore in the summer--sand, sea, the boardwalks, amusement piers, and food...lots of good food. Wildwood is one of the more well-known shore towns. Whether you visit in season or during the quiet winter months, you'll find a significant number of restaurants, because this is, after all, a resort. Separating the wheat from the chaff can be daunting unless you subscribe to the theory that locals and regular visitors know best.

Seafood

Urie's Waterfront Restaurant has been around since Bobby Rydell sang about Wildwood days. First opened in 1956, the restaurant boasts a large pillared dining room, but even better, a deck for outdoor dining in the summer, complete with bar and overlooking a marina. All-you-can-eat crabs (Dungeness and Alaskan Snow) are offered every night, and there's live entertainment on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Urie's provides an "early bird" menu for the thrifty. Entrees from the regular menu run between $19 and $26, as of early 2010. Voted "Best Water View Dining" by South Jersey Magazine, the restaurant is easy to find--just look for the big pink Urie's on the roof next to a neon palm tree.

Steaks

If beef is your thing, try Jersey Girl. Located on Atlantic Avenue a block in from the Boardwalk, the decor is casual contemporary and the menu is diverse. While Jersey Girl offers a full array of the obligatory seafood entrees, the New York strip steak with Old Bay-spiced onion rings is reportedly to die for. Fans also mention the Braised Lamb sandwich and Braised Sirloin Sliders. Entrees start at $15 and run to $26; the Baja Burger will set you back $9 (as of February 2010). Jersey Girl also has a rep for really good specialty martinis. Outdoor dining is available in the summer months.

Sandwiches

New Jersey is famous for its cheesesteak subs, and the Alumni Grill is famous for its cheesesteaks. The grill was voted best by a local newspaper in 2004, 2007, 2008, and 2009--and that's saying something, because the place has only been around for six years, as of 2010. Ultra casual, it's owned by a brother-and-sister team, Jennifer and Michael DeClemente. The place is so good and draws so many avid sub-lovers that it outgrew its original location within its first two years of operation. Everything on the menu is homemade, mostly by Michael, and the Alumni Grill offers more than just steak subs. A full menu includes wraps, panini and salads, and you can pretty much feed a family of four here for under $40. The heartbreaker is that the place is closed in the off season from mid-October through mid-April.

On the Boardwalk

Dining on the Boards mostly involves anything you can hold in your hands and lift to your mouth while strolling. Think hot dogs, corn dogs, fried clams...and pizza. The best of the best is Mack's Pizza, with two locations on the Boardwalk. Mack's pies are the descendants of Mack's Tomato Pies first created in Trenton by Anthony and Lena Macaroni in the 1940s, and the pizzas are still homemade. In 1953, the Macaronis found their way to Wildwood and the rest, as they say, is history. People rave about the cheese toppings here. Hint: they use cheddar in the blend.

Feed Sea Monkeys

Feeding sea monkeys is a simple task. There are no complicated preparation methods. There aren’t even colorful flakes to spread over the water of the tank on a daily basis like with fish. You only need to put food in their aquarium once a week. Talk about low maintenance!

Instructions

1. Feed your sea monkeys five days after they hatch. The little guys are born with enough food to get them through their first days.

2. Scoop out sea monkey growth food with the tiny end of the spoon provided in your sea monkey kit. Make sure the food is level with the edges of the spoon–a heaping spoonful will result in overfeeding.

3. Provide food for your tiny pets every eight days. Leave a sticky note on the package with the date to remember when you last fed your sea monkeys.

4. Change up your sea monkey meals. You could alternate feeding them growth food and super food. You could also lavish them with some banana treat dessert every so often.

5. Buy additional food packets on-line. The small sea monkey growth food package should last for an entire year. Single packages of food are available through the official sea monkey website or on a number of other sea monkey related sites.

Remove Skunk Odors From Cats

Tomato juice can kill skunk odors.

Cats are playful and curious creatures. If your cat becomes curious and playful with a skunk, however, it may suffer from serious consequences. If a skunk feels threatened, it will blast its foul-smelling spray in the direction of your beloved cat, leaving you with the responsibility to cleaning up the mess. Skunk odor can be notoriously stubborn, but if you attack it with the right solutions, you can remove all traces of the odor and residue.

Instructions

1. Examine your cat's fur and skin thoroughly. If you see any signs of bites or scratches, bring the animal to your local veterinarian immediately. Skunks can carry rabies, a disease fatal to cats, so waste no time in having your cat examined.

2. Examine the eyes, mouth and nose. Skunk spray may cause severe inflammation, so if you notice any redness or general discoloration on the eyes, mouth or nose, rinse the entire face with cold water.

3. Bathe your cat using your preferred pet shampoo. Lather the shampoo into the entire fur coat, rinse thoroughly and dry. When preparing to apply a powerful odor remover to your pet's fur, you can increase your effectiveness by bathing the animal first, according to HealthyPet.com.

4. Lather your cat's entire fur coat with tomato juice. Allow the juice to remain on the fur for five minutes and rinse it out with water. If this fails to fully remove the odor, try a second coating of tomato juice or proceed to the next step.

5. Mix 1 tsp. of dish washing liquid, 1 cup of baking soda and 1 qt. of hydrogen peroxide (3-percent concentration). Pour the liquid onto your cat's fur, or dip the cat inside the liquid, in order to penetrate the entire coat. Rinse the cat with cold water immediately after.

Things Food Stamps Won'T Cover

If you receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits, better known as food stamps, you can buy most types of food at your local grocery store. Still, there are some restrictions on what you can buy, including alcohol, pet food and vitamin supplements. You also cannot buy hot, cooked food that you can eat on the premises.

Alcoholic Beverages

You cannot buy alcoholic beverages, including wine, beer or spirits, with food stamps. One exception to this rule is that you can buy cooking wine for use as a cooking ingredient. You can buy nonalcoholic mixers, such as club soda or soft drinks with your food stamps.

Live Animals and Pet Food

Food stamps cannot be used for pet food, even if the food is for seeing-eye dogs or other service animals. Nor can you use food stamps to buy live animals, including chickens that could lay eggs, or animals that you plan to butcher for food.

Over-the-Counter Medicines

The food stamp program does not cover over-the-counter medicines and nutritional supplements. This includes items that you might suck, drink or chew, such as cough drops, and any item that has a "supplement facts" label printed on its packaging.

Hot Foods

If your supermarket has a deli or hot-food counter, you can't use your food stamps to buy any hot foods or prepared foods that you eat in the store. You also can't use your SNAP benefits to buy food that you will cook at the store, such as a frozen burrito that you cook in a convenience store's microwave. Certain approved charitable-meals programs for seniors, the homeless and the disabled are exceptions to this rule.

Food Preparation and Storage

You can't buy cooking equipment, canning supplies, plastic containers or food preservation items, such as dry ice, with your food stamps.

Ornamental Vegetables and Gift Foods

SNAP classifies pumpkins as a food, and you can use your food stamps to buy them. Inedible gourds used for decoration, on the other hand, don't qualify as a food, and you can't buy them with food stamps. If you buy a gift basket, the nonfood items cannot compose more than 50 percent of the basket's value. The same is also true of birthday or special occasion cakes decorated with figurines: You can buy one of these cakes with food stamps as long as its inedible decorations aren't worth more than the edible parts of the cake.

Gardening Supplies

While you can use your food stamps to buy seeds, saplings and food-bearing plants, you cannot use them to buy gardening or plant-growing supplies. For example, you can't buy fertilizer, plant food, bug spray or garden tools with your SNAP benefits.

Help Homeless Children By Volunteering

Homeless children need your help.

The homeless children deserve your time to volunteer. Volunteering in a shelter and making donations to homeless children are some of the most worthwhile things you will ever do, and the time you spend helping homeless children is almost guaranteed to make you feel like a better person. Make a positive impact in a young child's life and help make the world a better place.

Instructions

1. Donating games and puzzles help homeless children feel better.

Donate new and current children's games, puzzles, books and movies to a homeless shelter. Give new or gently used clothes, shoes, toys and personal items (such as toothbrushes, blankets, toothpaste, soap, socks, slippers, etc.) to the shelter(s).

2. Flying kites with children makes for an exciting day.

Volunteer at a shelter, kitchen or daycare on a regular basis, and interact with the kids. Read books to the group aloud and with enthusiasm. Play outdoor games, such as dodge ball, jump rope, tag, "duck, duck goose," croquet, kick ball and more. Coordinate an event with the shelter's administrative officials to take the kids kite-flying at a nearby park. Provide the kites and some sandwiches, veggies, cookies, and juice boxes for lunch. The list of social activities to plan is seemingly endless.

3. Tutoring a child helps them do better with schoolwork.

Tutor kids after school and help them with their homework. Talk to them and let them recognize your concern about their day at school. Find out what they want to be when they grow up and encourage them to follow their dreams. Teach the older kids to help the younger kids and be a good role model to them.

4. Perform a show for the children. Set up a time with the shelter office to play an instrument and sing, or stage a magic show. Demonstrate the craft or hobby you are good at performing and get involve them, too, by getting them to construct stage props or singing/assisting you on stage.

5. Everyone celebrates his birthday at an "un-birthday" party

Plan an all-inclusive birthday party, celebrating everyone's birthday all at once. Bring a cake, goody bags, paper horns and hats and some current pop music for the kids to dance to and enjoy.

6. Arrange an event night. Screen a movie and bring some microwavable popcorn to pop. Have the shelter host an art-themed party, and bring smocks, finger paints, and large sheets paper for the kids to create their own "masterpieces."

Put Your Baby Up For Adoption On "Sims 2"

Babies in "The Sims 2" are put up for adoption if they are taken away from their families by the social worker. The social worker is a non-player character (NPC) that will come to the home and remove babies (as well as toddlers and children) if their needs are not being met. Certain actions trigger the social worker to show up and remove the baby, after which it becomes eligible for adoption by other Sim families.

Instructions

1. Leave the baby unattended by moving all of the teen, adult and elder Sims off of the lot. Ignore the game's warning message that you should not leave the child alone, and the social worker will show up and remove the baby from the home.

2. Do not feed the baby for at least two days until its hunger meter drops completely so that it's fully red. Ignore the "Feed that Sim fast!" message that pops up, and the social worker should arrive to remove the baby within 24 hours.

3. Fire or dismiss the nanny if you have hired her. Nannies have the ability to track the schedule of the adult Sims in the household, and will show up automatically whenever the adults leave the house to take care of the baby. In order for the social worker to appear, all adult Sims must be off the lot, including the nanny.

4. Allow the baby's social needs to go unfulfilled. Do not pick it up, cuddle it, play with it, change its diapers or bathe it. The social worker will appear once the baby's social needs drop low enough.

5. Cause older children to get "F" grades at school by not helping them to do their homework. (Do not click on the homework and choose "Do Homework" if the child brings homework home from school.) If a child's grades remain at "F" for too long, the social worker will remove that child along with any other children, toddlers and babies in the home.

6. Make the temperature around the baby drop so that it becomes too cold and its temperature gauge drops to the blue level. The easiest way to do this is to wait until the season turns to winter, then remove the roof from the family's house. This step is only possible if the "Seasons" expansion pack is installed along with the main "Sims 2" game.

7. Make the baby too hot by leaving it out in the sun for an extended period of time so that its temperature gauge rises to the red level. Again, this step is only possible if the "Seasons" expansion pack is installed.

Pet Shelter Fundraising Ideas

Shelter animals need fundraising events to survive.

Raising money for a pet shelter during tough economic times can be a real challenge. Shelter volunteers are always looking for a good way to raise money. The easiest way to solicit donations is to bring your events to the local community to make them aware of the needs and how they can help.

Christmas Tree Donations

Santa won't have to deliver Christmas tree donations.

A good fundraising idea for the Christmas season is to place a Christmas tree in a local mall or other public place and hang paper ornaments on it with items people can purchase for donation to the pet shelter. Some people are more apt to donate an item than cash and the pets in the shelter still benefit. Ask for treats, toys, pet food or gift cards to local discount or pet stores and designate the day your rescue with be there with the pets to collect the donations. You could also have people purchase the paper ornaments as a donation.

Walking Shelter Ambassadors

Walking your shelter dogs can actually help raise money.

One of the least expensive fundraising ideas also takes the least amount of people to execute. Take an animal from your pet shelter to a local outdoor event like an art or car show and let them be a walking shelter ambassador to collect donations.

Make sure you select the most well-behaved animal from the shelter, create a lightweight shelter donation sign to hang from the animal's neck or over their back and walk them through the event to raise awareness and funds for your shelter.

Print On Demand Website

Put your shelter's logo on printed T-shirts and other items to raise funds.

Any pet shelter can create a Print On Demand (POD) website to raise funds for their organization. POD sites are free to open. All you have to do is upload images or logos from your pet shelter to the site and the POD company will print, produce, ship and collect the money from your sales of items like T-shirts, tote bags or coffee mugs. All you have to do set the prices and open an account to receive the funds.

Volunteer Service Auction

Auction volunteer services to help a shelter.

If you have an organization with a group of willing volunteers, you can raise money for your pet shelter by holding an auction of services. Advertise your auction event on local radio stations and hang posters throughout the community. Then find a park or other local venue to hold an auction of volunteers who will rake leaves, clean windows or any other household chore. The highest bidder for each volunteer is the winner and the shelter reaps the benefits.

Deduct Medical Travel On Taxes

Deduct medical travel expenses on Form 1040 Schedule A.

If you need to travel out of the country for a medical procedure, to another state for a research study or to a conference on a condition you or a family may have, deducting medical travel expenses is one way to ease the financial burden of these extra medical costs. Medical insurance does not cover most medical travel, but the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) does allow you to deduct medical travel expenses within certain limits.

Instructions

1. Create a spreadsheet that documents every trip you took for medical purposes. Make sure you note the days that were part of the medical travel.

2. Gather receipts and enter medical travel-related costs into your spreadsheet.

3. Compute any travel miles. If you drove, calculate the total number of miles driven.

4. Multiply the mileage you drive by 23 cents to determine the amount of mileage dollars you may deduct.

5. Total your receipts and mileage dollars. Ensure the number equals or exceeds 7.5 percent of your income.

6. Calculate the difference between itemizing on your taxes and taking the standard deduction. If you pay fewer dollars by taking the standardized deduction, do not itemize.

7. Include all tallied medical travel expenses on Schedule A on your taxes.

State Requirements For Dog Vaccines

A rabies vaccine is the only vaccine required by law.

Every state in the United States has its own laws governing requirements for pet owners. When it comes to vaccination requirements, the states mandate only one vaccine: rabies.

In 2007, the Centers for Disease Control announced that the United States was officially canine-rabies free. A dog can get rabies, however, if bitten by an infected mammal. The dog can then spread rabies into the human population through its saliva. Due to this risk, states mandate that the dog's vaccine is kept current.

State Vaccine Requirements

All states regulate the administration of rabies vaccines to dogs. The vaccines must be administered by a licensed veterinarian.

Frequency of Vaccinations

The frequency of the vaccine administration varies, with most states requiring one every three years (when the veterinarian is using a vaccine that lasts three years) or in accordance with the recommendations of the vaccine manufacturer. Washington D.C. and Vermont, however, require annual rabies boosters regardless of the manufacturer.

Failure to Vaccinate

If a dog owner doesn't vaccinate his dog, or is unable to prove a vaccination occurred, he will be fined. If the dog bites a person and the rabies vaccine cannot be verified, the dog will remain in quarantine for 10 days.

Exotic Pet Laws In Arizona

Learn the exotic pet laws in Arizona

Exotic pets seem like a great idea if you are a person with a lot of unique interests or a unique personality. Sure, anyone can have a hamster, but the kiddie pool in your back yard is teeming with alligators. While this may sound like a great idea, there are some problems with purchasing, owning and selling exotic pets. Exotic pets carry the potential to spread disease, injure people and cause environmental problems if they escape. They also may be threatened or endangered, and keeping them in a private home harms their species. Arizona's laws cover what animals you can and cannot legally own or sell as a pet.

List of Exotic Animals Covered

The list of exotic pets for which a license is required is rather extensive in Arizona. In addition to unrealistic pets like moose and elk, there are also numerous species of native fish on the list, as well as some common animals like squirrels, chipmunks, and opossums. Certain smaller rodents are also on the list as some are carriers for human diseases like the hantavirus, so keeping them might actually be hazardous to local health.

Licensing Requirements

The state of Arizona requires a special license for any animal, bird, or fish on their list of restricted exotic species. These licenses must be applied for and renewed by December 31st each year, and if you do not maintain your license renewal properly, your formerly-legal exotic pets can be seized because of this fact. In addition, by holding a license, you are required to keep detailed records of the care and feeding of the animals, and the location where they are registered is subject to inspection by a state game warden.

Potential Penalties

If you are not in compliance with your licensing requirements, or an inspector believes your facilities are insufficient or there is evidence of neglect and cruelty, you can have your license revoked and subsequently denied for a period of up to five years, as well as having criminal charges and fines imposed. You may also have your animals seized and relocated to a licensed facility, and you may even find that some of them will be put to sleep if they are not in a condition where they can recover from the neglect or abuse.

Who Owns Dingo Treats

Dogs may choke on too-small treats, or pieces of rawhide. Be sure to watch while they eat.

Dingo treats are part of the Dingo brand family owned by Spectrum Brand. Spectrum Brand also owns the rights to the George Foreman Grill and Cutter grass products. Dingo sells rawhide bones, training treats and dental bones in addition to the regular Dingo treats.

History of Dingo

Importance of Rawhide Bones

Rawhide bones are great for satisfying a dog's urge to chew. Rawhide helps clean teeth and gums and keeps dog's breath fresh. Rawhide bones are made from the second layer of skin of cattle which is tough yet flexible.

What Is Ppap

What is PPAP?

Many industrial companies require that their parts providers utilize PPAP processes. PPAP, or the Production Part Approval Process, is used by almost every industry that produces and services part commodities. It is the standard utilized to ensure quality and efficiency with regard to part production.

PPAP is an effective way to monitor financial prudence as well; its effective audits include the measurement of performance, the analysis of the return on investment in any given parts production process and the business case analysis for the production process. Legal prudence and industry standard conformance are also measured.

PPAP is a set of standards within a larger set of standards called APQP, which stands for Advanced Product Quality Planning. This umbrella term is used for formalized standard and defined step-by-step processes to providing quality parts for the end customer.

History

In 1982 the management staff of General Motors, Chrysler and Ford Motors founded AIAG (Auto Industry Action Group). The group then created to Advanced Product Quality Planning & Control Plan (APQP), within these standards, the AIAG developed PPAP to advance the parts production approval process of quality planning.

Industries

Primarily, the automotive and semiconductor industries utilize PPAP standards and processes. However, any industry that implements ISO/TS 16949 also uses PPAP standards. ISO/TS 16949 are connected to the application of ISO 9000 standard sets, which are required for the legal international distribution of various parts.

Purpose

Ultimately the PPAP being utilized is required so that the customer can expect a zero-defects part. This is accomplished by production tooling analysis prior to actual mass part production. By using the PPAP, process testing reports are generated with every product, and the customer is ensured that their are expectations met every time, even though massive orders, constant transactions and global exchange complicate the parts business.

Process

During the phase of production for quality planning, a process flow chart is created. From this chart, a Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) is established. A control plan is then drawn up based upon the results of the PFMEA.

The control plan is developed detailing how the processes are controlled and how any issues with noncompliance are handled. (Manufacturing process audits require control plans as a main portion of the documentation requirements.) A Gauge R&R, or Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility Analysis, is then necessary.

Next, a sample manufacturing utilizing the specified production run is required to prove out the processes. The results of this sampling production run are then analyzed and documented statistically to complete the PPAP.

Training

PPAP training is offered by itself or as part of the training provided within the APQP training courses. These training courses can be found on the AIAG website. The PPAP course costs $200.00, and the APQP course costs $995.00. Both are accredited. These courses teach documentation, parts production and quality control processes and requirements.

Protect Assets From Nursing Home Expenses

Protect your assets in your golden years.

Nursing home care can be an essential need for many elderly people, but the expenses incurred from nursing home care can be costly. Many times, if a person who enters a nursing home has assets, either Medicaid or the nursing home will attempt to take the assets to pay for expenses. There are, however, a few steps you can take to help protect your assets from nursing home expenses.

Instructions

1. Take inventory of all personal assets of the person who will be affected. This includes bank accounts, pensions, plans, bonds, real property and any other tangible asset. Find, or figure, the worth of the assets if liquidated for cash. Divide these assets into two categories: assets that can become cash easily, such as bank accounts or stock; and those that will take time to sell, such as real property or annuities.

2. Have the person moving into the nursing home declare that he will go back home as soon as he is better. This will protect the home from being taken by the government or nursing home for payment. Even if the chances of recovery are negligible, taking this step allows for more time and keeps real property protected from nursing home expenses.

3. Liquidate as much as possible of the first category and use the money to pay down debt and mortgages. Putting money into the home increases equity and increases the value of an excluded asset if you use Step 2 above.

4. Invest in useful personal property and furnishings. Medicaid and nursing homes cannot take inventory of personal possessions.

5. Trade in the person's car for a better-equipped vehicle or purchase a new one. While the owner of the car must show that he needs the car to get around, he does not have to be the driver of the car.

6. Create an irrevocable trust. This can be used to place assets and income off limits for nursing home expenses. Keep the monthly income from the trust low enough to trigger Medicaid assistance, and this will cover the expenses.

7. Transfer real property to another family member before placing the person in a nursing facility. Check the guidelines to see how far in advance this must be done so you do not trigger a red flag.

8. Donate assets to charity over a period of time to avoid red flags. This will help decrease both seizure for nursing home expenses and eliminate estate taxes later.

Buy A Dog Grooming Kit

Regular grooming not only keeps your dog looking lovely, it's also a great time to bond. A complete grooming kit will contain brushes, combs, clippers, and tools to help you care for your dog's nails, ears and teeth.

Instructions

1. Consider why you will be grooming your dog. Will you be showing your dog or just caring for her as a pet? If you plan on showing your dog, you will need a wider variety of items in your grooming kit.

2. Discuss grooming with the breeder you purchase your dog from or with your veterinarian. Some breeds require special grooming.

3. Buy a grooming table only if you will be showing your dog.

4. Purchase a grooming comb with fine and coarse teeth. Buy special nail clippers for dogs. Consider an electric nail clipper, which is easier to use than a manual one. Get a clotting agent (or a styptic pencil) in case you clip the nail too close to the quick and it bleeds.

5. Keep in mind that you will need a toothbrush and dog toothpaste. A fingertip brush will give you more control. Never use human toothpaste on dogs.

6. Get a flea comb (to check for fleas) and a dog shampoo (unless your veterinarian does not recommend using shampoo).

7. Realize that you may need several types of brushes to care for your dog's coat. A slicker brush will remove dead fur and should be purchased for all breeds of dogs. You can also get this type of brush as a glove that you wear on your hand. A pin brush is good for longhaired dogs and a bristle brush works well on short coats. A rake helps brush undercoats. If your dog has a problem with matting, purchase a mat comb.

8. Buy a dog clipper and blades, along with clipper coolant to cool the blades, only if you will be cutting your dog's fur yourself. If you have no experience doing this, let a professional groomer do the job.

9. Remember to buy a liquid ear cleaner and cotton swabs to clean your dog's ears. Some breeds need this more than others.

10. Use a special dog-fur dryer if you will blowing your dog's fur dry. Regular hair dryers can burn a dog.

11. Purchase a large storage box with a handle for storing your grooming supplies.

Oregon Rules For Non Profit Organizations

Groups in Oregon must apply for nonprofit status.

Nonprofit organizations in Oregon must abide by rules and guidelines established by the legislature. To qualify as a nonprofit, an organization must be categorized as one of three types: a mutual benefit association, with advantages of membership, such as a club; a public benefit group, such as an animal rescue, which serves the community; or an organization formed primarily for religious purposes.

Incorporation

To become recognized as a nonprofit organization, a group must submit articles of incorporation to the Oregon Secretary of State. This must be done prior to applying to become a tax-exempt entity with the IRS and receiving nonprofit status. Articles of incorporation must include the group's name, the names and addresses of the founders, business address, and information about how the assets will be distributed if the organization is dissolved. Once articles of incorporation have been submitted, the Secretary of State has 10 business days to file the articles or to refuse to file and return the articles to the organization or its representative.

Organizational Meeting

After incorporation, the new group's board of directors must conduct an organizational meeting to appoint officers and adopt bylaws. The bylaws must contain provisions for managing and regulating the nonprofit's affairs, including admission of members, as well as emergency bylaws and powers. These emergency bylaws include procedures for calling a meeting of the board of directors, requirements for the meeting, and designation of additional or substitute directors.

Annual Meetings

Oregon requires that a nonprofit organization with members hold an annual membership meeting. The time and place for this meeting must be stated in the bylaws. The meeting must report the activities and financial condition of the nonprofit organization; leaders are required to allow members to consider and act on other matters that may be raised at the meeting.

Additional Filings

Changes within the nonprofit organization may require additional filing with the Oregon Secretary of State. Amendments to a group's articles of incorporation require resubmission of the articles. Articles of merger must be submitted after the board of directors approves such a plan. If the organization decides to disband it must give the Oregon Attorney General written notice, including a copy or summary of the plan of dissolution. The organization may then submit articles of dissolution once authorized by the Attorney General.

Select A Jack Russell Terrier

Jacks are popping up everywhere. Eddie from "Frasier," Milo from "The Mask" and Wishbone are all Jack Russell terriers. But remember that those dogs are trained and work in short segments. The Jack Russell terrier is a hunting dog and not for everyone.

Instructions

1. Choose a Jack Russell if you want a smart, loyal and energetic companion. They're good watchdogs.

2. Remember that while they're easy to train, Jacks have short attention spans. They require consistency and a great amount of patience.

3. Reconsider buying a Jack if you have children. They won't tolerate rough treatment and are a poor choice for families with kids under 10.

4. Adopt a Jack Russell only if he will be your only dog. While some puppies will do fine with a cat already established in the home, they tend to be very aggressive with other dogs, even those much larger than themselves. They won't willingly share food, toys and so forth.

5. Expect your Jack Russell to weigh between 15 and 18 lbs. and stand 10 to 14 inches at the shoulder. There are short- and long-legged varieties.

6. Keep in mind that while he looks like a small dog to you, the Jack is essentially a 130-lb. dog in a small body. These dogs are extremely intelligent, very bold and have no sense of their small stature.

7. Expect to pay between $400 and $800 for a good-quality dog.

8. Consider adopting from a rescue group. Many of these dogs are already housebroken and finished with the chewing stage. There's usually nothing wrong with the dog; the owners didn't research the breed and later discovered that they and the dog were incompatible.

9. Note that terriers require a lot of attention. This is an extremely active dog. The main reason people give up a Jack Russell is that they weren't prepared for the activity level of the breed. The second reason is that the Jack nipped at the children.

10. Be prepared to enjoy a full 15 years with your terrier, as this is the average life expectancy of a Jack Russell.

Adopting A Newborn Baby

Adopting a Newborn Baby

Introduction

When looking at adoption, many couples' first option is often to look for the possibility of adopting an infant. This allows the couple a better chance of raising the child as their own without any influence from foster homes or the birth parents. However, adopting an infant can be substantially more difficult than adopting an older child who is currently in a foster care home.

Time

The first noticeable difference in adopting an infant versus an older child is the wait period between applying for an adoption and receiving your child. Wait times can vary between 6 months and as long as 2 years.

Requirements

The requirements that must be met before a couple can adopt an infant are much harder to obtain than for an older child. This is largely because there are so few infants available for adoption. In the past, waiting lists or first-come-first-served rules applied across the board for infants and older children. However, this is no longer the case. Potential parents for infants face a much stricter review process, and many couples are denied the opportunity to adopt a newborn every year but are allowed to adopt older children.

Cost

Costs associated with adopting a newborn are also significantly higher. According to the Adoption Network, the average cost to adopt a newborn can be three times as much as the cost of adopting a child.

Adoption Agencies

When adopting an older child from a foster care system, you usually deal with public or government agencies. However, because infants have not been placed in the custody of the foster system, special interim agencies negotiate the terms and process of the infant adoption. These agencies are usually licensed by the state. However, in some states there are unlicensed agencies that offer the same services. These agencies do pose an additional risk to the potential couple because they are not overseen by any government agencies.

Independent

Some couples choose independent adoption as a way to adopt a newborn. This involves the couple working with a lawyer who specializes in the legal issues of adoption who will facilitate the process and the interaction between you and the birth parent. This allows a much quicker process in many cases, and in some instances even puts the child in the hands of the new family within 24 to 48 hours after the birth.

Do It Yourself Adult Adoption

While adoption usually is considered to be a legal mechanism to add a child to a family, it is also possible to adopt adults. Almost all U.S. states permit adult adoption, and many even have laws separate from their adoption statutes to govern adult adoption. Whether for inheritance purposes, to solidify familial bonds, or for some other legal or emotional reason, an adult adoption can be a straightforward way to meet your goals.

Reasons

Most often, adult adoption is performed when an adult and his nonbiological parent wish to establish a stronger bond. The adoption may be to recognize a caregiver who provided a great deal of support to an adult during her childhood, or it may be to cement familial ties following a parent's remarriage. Same-sex couples can sometimes make use of an adult adoption to create legal rights over each other if marriage is not permitted in their state. An adult adoption affects inheritance rights, often permitting the adopted adult to inherit property if his adoptive parent dies without a will. Depending on the laws of your state, however, the adoption may remove your ability to inherit from your biological or former adoptive parents.

Process

Formalizing an adult adoption varies from state to state. Most require the consent of the adult being adopted---except in cases of diminished mental capacity---and many require notification, but not consent, of the birth parent. If the adult is married, you may need the consent of the person's spouse. Many states also require that the adopter be a set number of years older than the adoptee. For instance, California requires that adopters be at least 10 years older than the adult they wish to adopt. If all the requirements are satisfied, you may file an adult adoption petition and a signed and dated adoption agreement with your local family court. The guidelines for each form are available in the courthouse. Once these forms have been filed, a hearing will be scheduled. After reviewing your petition and conducting a hearing, a judge will issue a final order either permitting or rejecting the adoption request.

Warning

Be very clear about your wishes before requesting an adult adoption. Unlike marriage, adoption is irreversible, and some of the parental ties, duties and obligations created upon adoption cannot be severed. While it is possible to petition for your own adult adoption by filing the appropriate form with your county's family court, consulting with a trained family law attorney in your state can help you determine if adult adoption is right for your circumstances.

Hog Hunting In Smithfield Illinois

There are many wild boar in central and southern Illinois

Hog hunting is not uncommon in Smithfield, Illinois. Pigs or hogs were among the livestock brought by the large wave of settlers to the state of Illinois in the early 19th century. Besides being a good food source the hog also allowed for waste from the home to be disposed of. However, some hogs escaped from their pens and went into the wooded, undeveloped areas of the state where they began to reproduce. Decades later Smithfiled has an abundance of feral or wild hogs that are creating environmental problems for the area.

History of Hogs In Illinois

Hogs have been in Illinois since the first European settlers arrived, particularly in southern Illinois which was settled largely by people of German descent according to Don Tolzmann's book "Illinois German Heritage." Until the invention of barbed wire in the late 1800s, it was difficult to contain the pigs with wooden fences which is why so many of them escaped into the wild, according to the article "Hogs Running Wild" on lib.niu.edu.

Smithfield, Illinois

Smithfield is a very small town in West-Central Illinois with a population of 203 according to city-data.com. The town of Smithfield is located off of state Route 95 just 35 miles east of Macomb, Illinois. Macomb is home to Western Illinois University and is a good place for hotel lodging in the Smithfield area.

The Value of Hog Hunting

The hunting of wild hogs is good on two accounts. First it eliminates a species that causes a great deal of damage to the natural wildlife of the area. The hogs eat the same food as deer, turkeys, squirrels and other wild life. Feral hogs are capable of destroying large swaths of land because they are rooting feeders, which means they probe the subsoil to find food.

Why Farmers Approve of Hog Hunting

Not only are the hogs destructive to the ecosystem they are damaging to fences and crops according to "Hogs Running Wild." Landowners are encouraged to hunt the hogs because of their potential for economic and environmental damage.

Hunting Wild Hogs

The first choice of weapon for hunting hogs is often a large gauge shotgun or a rifle because of the size of the hogs. According to "Hogs Running Wild" a permit or license to hunt wild hogs in Illinois is not required. The only permission you need is that of the landowner. Many farmers will gladly let people hunt these animals in an effort to preserve their fields and crops.
