Become A Permitted Alligator Trapper

An alligator trapper is usually licensed by the state and county in which he works.

Alligator trapping is a necessary but dangerous occupation in areas where the alligator population becomes a nuisance to the human population. Alligator trappers are the only people allowed to remove nuisance alligators; the trapper either kills or relocate the reptiles. Every state has its own specific requirements for alligator trappers.

Instructions

1. Verify that you are eligible to become a permitted alligator trapper in your state. Most states require that you be at least 18 years old, though Louisiana will issue an alligator hunting permit at 15. You must have a valid driver's license, boating license and the proper tools to safely capture alligators. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission specifies that individuals convicted of wildlife related crimes are not eligible to become alligator trappers. Investigate the laws in your state and county prior to applying.

2. Fill out an application to become an alligator trapper in your state, or the state in which you intend to hunt alligators.

3. Pay the required application and permit fees. Most states offer a set number of permits for alligator trappers or hunters, especially states with specific trapping months or seasons.
