Care For A Pomeranian Puppy

Pomeranians are "toy-sized" dogs that remain small all their lives.

Pomeranians are small, fluffy dogs that range in color from red and orange to white with colored spots. They are highly intelligent and loyal, and make beloved companions. If you are the proud new owner of a Pomeranian puppy, follow these simple rules to keep your baby happy and transition him to his new home.

Instructions

1. Give him a daily walk. Pomeranians are small enough to often get plenty of exercise just playing around the house. But not satisfying your canine's instincts to walk could cause him to act out and form bad behaviors when he's older.

2. Brush his coat frequently. Pomeranians have long fur that can often get tangled and matted. Invest in a soft dog brush and brush your puppy daily to keep his fur soft and smooth. Your puppy will also enjoy being groomed, so it's a good way to bond with him.

3. Make sure your puppy has fresh water and access to food at all times. Buy puppy food with the right mix of vitamins and minerals. Wet puppy food ensures the puppy doesn't choke on large chunks of food.

4. Never feed your puppy table scraps. Pomeranian puppies--even adult Pomeranians--have very small throats and mouths and can choke on pieces of human food, even if the pieces seem small to you. Pomeranians will also learn the bad habit of mooching for scraps every time you have dinner.

5. Train your puppy to go to the bathroom outside by putting him outside whenever you see signs such as sniffing around and turning in circles. If he looks like he's going to eliminate in the house, make a loud noise to distract him (but not to scare him), pick him up and put him outside. Give him lots of praise when he eliminates outside to reinforce the behavior.
