Volunteer At Homeless Shelters In Traverse City Michigan

Homelessness and poverty can affect individuals and families suddenly or gradually, over a prolonged period of time. It is caused by a variety of factors, including but not limited to: unemployment, domestic violence, lack of affordable housing, medical disability, lack of job skills and mental or other illness. Homeless people can include men, women and children of all ages. Volunteering at a homeless shelter is a way to help those in crisis. People who would like to volunteer at a homeless shelter in Traverse City, Michigan may apply to volunteer at the Goodwill Inn Shelter.


Instructions


1. Read about all of the services that the homeless shelter provides. Telephone the Goodwill Inn Shelter to inquire about volunteering there. You may be required to complete a volunteer application.


2. Go to the Goodwill Inn Shelter on the day and time that you are scheduled to volunteer. It is located at 2943 Keystone Road in Traverse City. In addition to providing shelter and a place to sleep to homeless individuals, the Goodwill Inn Shelter serves warm meals to its clients.


3. Speak to residents of the shelter, if you feel so inclined. Do not be condescending toward the residents of the shelter. If you approach people, be aware that many homeless individuals have untreated mental conditions and disorders.


4. Consider donating clothing, food and/or money to the shelter in addition to your time.
