I Register A Pitbull Without Papers

You can register your pit bull with the UKC under a limited privilege registration.

The American Pit Bull Terrier is not a breed recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC). The Continental Kennel Club (CKC) recognizes pit bulls as a breed, but will not allow dogs without papers to register. The United Kennel Club (UKC) acknowledges American Pit Bulls as a breed and will allow dogs with no papers to register in order to participate in obedience, agility, and all competitive events except conformation. You will not be allowed to breed your pit bull, or you will not be able to advertise the puppies as coming from registered parents.

Instructions

1. Make an appointment with your veterinarian. In order to register your paperless pit bull for a limited partnership number with the UKC , you must have a copy of your dog's spay/neuter certificate. Intact dogs are not allowed to complete limited partnership registration.

2. Fill out the application online. Your veterinarian can sign the application attesting to the dog's spay/neuter status in lieu of a spay/neuter certificate. You can also call the UKC and request an application be mailed to you.

3. Pay the $20 fee to process the application. Once the application is processed, you can enter your pit bull in any UKC-sanctioned performance event (obedience, agility) for which it is eligible.

4. Add photos to the application. The UKC requires you to include two photos of your dog with the application. The photos must be at least 3 inches by 3 inches; one must be a profile of the entire dog, and one must be a close-up of the dog's head. These photos will be used to compare your pit bull to UKC American Pit Bull breed standards and confirm that your dog meets those physical standards.
