Make a Free Virtual Pet Website
If you're a grownup with kids begging for a real pet, maybe it'd be wise to see if they're up to the task first. A number of websites allow children -- or adults -- to create an online virtual pet. Some charge a small fee; others make money through advertising. Once enrolled, you can manipulate your pet's surroundings, toys and "clothing" -- but you must maintain regular hygiene and recreation routines or your little digital friend will suffer.
Instructions
1. Navigate to a site like Adoptme.com or Guffins.com and select "Adopt a Pet" (see Resources). The site will allow you to choose from among a selection of animals. Adoptme.com allows you to choose from just six animals and a handful of environments compared to Guffins.com. But Adoptme.com won't require any downloading, where the latter will require you to download free software to your computer. If you choose this latter option, select "Run" when prompted and follow the on-screen instructions.On Adoptme.com, enter your pet's name, age and gender, then hit "Adopt Pet." This will lead you to a screen where you can choose your pet's location and activities. With Guffins.com, choose from among 16 pets, then enter your pet's name, setting (eight total) and color.
2. Choose an activity to do with your virtual pet. On Adoptme.com, you can choose among a half-dozen settings. Choosing "Park" will let you take your pet for some interactive exercise. Choose "Go Inside" and take a bathroom, food or rest break in your house. Downloaded game environments like Guffins.com usually provide more technologically advanced activities, and you can gauge your pet's health and happiness with easy-to-read bar graphs on the screen.
3. Keep your pet happy with regular meals, bathroom breaks and trips or entertainment. On Adoptme.com, you receive "$80" to spend each day throughout the environments on shows or food, "$100" on a pet's first day. On Guffins.com, you can play with your pet directly from your search engine's toolbar, and money -- real or imaginary -- isn't a factor.
