You can make your own customized day planner.
A custom day planner is a useful tool to keep yourself organized. There are many daily and weekly calendars you can purchase, but maybe you want to design the layout yourself, or maybe you just want to save some money. You also can make a special day planner as a gift for a friend or relative and add important dates you know she will not want to forget.
Instructions
1. Decide the size of your calendar. If you are going to print it yourself, the easiest way is to choose a page size that can be easily made from standard-sized paper. For example, you could make a large-format day calendar with pages that are 8-1/2 x 11 inches, or you could make one with pages half that size by printing two pages on one sheet of paper and cutting the sheet in half. Consider what size would be convenient for you to use and how you will print it at that size when making your decision.
2. Design your pages. The easiest way to make a day planner is to design a two-page spread with blanks for you to write in the date. That way each page is the same. You can choose whether each page is a day or a week. You can add special areas for a to-do list, a daily menu or a grocery list, as well as places for appointments. If you don't want to design a page, you can download templates and print them (see Resources).
3. Print your pages. The best option is to print them on the front and back of the paper. Doing this will require a bit of planning, since most home printers don't print on both sides of the paper. Print a stack of pages on one side, then flip them over, put them back in the paper tray and print on the reverse side. Or make a master on your printer and take it to a copy center where you can photocopy them as double-sided copies. Use colored paper for an extra touch.
4. Cut the pages, if necessary. Use the markings on a paper cutter to make sure to cut all of the pages the same size. Or find a local printing shop with a professional paper cutter that can cut a thick stack of paper at one time and pay them to cut it.
5. Punch holes in the pages and put the pages in a three-ring binder. Or bind the pages with comb binding or similar binding. Office supply stores sell home binding equipment, or you can take the calendar to a local print shop where they can bind it for a small fee. You may want to choose an extra thick cardstock for the cover.
