Cass is a tiny, unincorporated community on the banks of the Greenbrier River in West Virginia. It was founded in 1901 as a logging town for men working on Cheat Mountain. Cass is now home to the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park, where guests can take train excursions to other towns and view loggers' accommodations and the equipment they used. There are also a number of cabin rentals in the areas around Cass.
Railroad State Park
Nestled in the mountains of West Virginia, the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park offers visitors a "trip into the past" with steam-drive locomotive excursions through the wilderness to locations like Whittaker Station. On display are the living quarters and equipment loggers used and Bald Knob, the third-highest point in West Virginia at 4,700 feet. The Cass Scenic Railroad State Park offers 20 cottages, accommodating four to 14 guests and featuring fully-equipped kitchens, televisions, wood stoves, private baths and electric heaters. Pets are also allowed in some units.

Elk River Inn
Elk River Inn & Cabins is located in Slaty Fork, just 15 miles outside Cass. Guests can choose from several lodging options. There are rooms at the inn and a variety of cabins accommodating up to nine. The units feature such amenities as satellite television; fully-equipped kitchens; and large, comfortable beds. In addition, the HIckory Appalachian log cabin also offers a private deck and hot tub and large, gas-log fireplace. The on-site restaurant features a pub-style bar and a hearth fireplace and offers selections like grilled lamb kabobs, Maryland crab cakes, rainbow trout and apple walnut salad. They also offer homemade breads, desserts and an extensive wine list.

Ridge Cabin
Top of the Ridge Cabin in Slaty Fork is a private, five-bedroom cabin facing the slopes of the Showshoe Resort.
