How Foster A Dog From Whatcom

Fostering a dog in your home helps them avoid living in a cage.

There are many ways to help homeless pets at the Whatcom Humane Society in Whatcom County, Washington. One important job is to foster a homeless dog in your home, to make more room at the Humane Society for other dogs. Becoming a foster parent requires an application approval and has certain restrictions, but the humane society's website and volunteer packet make it easy to get started.

Instructions

1. Fill out the Whatcom Humane Society volunteer application, which can be printed from the shelter's website or done in person at the shelter.

2. Attend a one-on-one meeting and orientation at your place of residence with a volunteer coordinator. You must either have your own home or written permission from your landlord. At this meeting the coordinator will assess you, your living environment and your ability to care for a foster dog.

3. Complete the foster volunteer orientation process and training to the satisfaction of the humane society supervisors within 60 days of signing up to be a foster parent.

4. Begin fostering once the humane society selects a compatible dog in need of a foster home.
