Financial Help To Get Cats Spayed In Kentucky

Cat spaying helps reduce the problem of overpopulation.

Spaying your female cat has various health and behavioral benefits. It helps reduce the risk of uterine infections and breast cancer, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. It also prevents your cat from going into heat, which usually makes it yowl and urinate in inappropriate areas. Spaying and neutering cats help fight pet overpopulation. If you can't afford to spay your cat, various organizations can provide financial help.

Clinics and Programs

Several clinics, such as the Lexington Humane Society's clinic, offer spaying services for free or at low costs if the cat owners met the eligibility requirements. Additionally, some not-for-profit organizations, such as the Humane Society Animal League for Life of Madison County, provide discount certificates for use at any veterinarian's office. The veterinarian can then claim the coupon with the issuing organization. A discount certificate usually has an expiration date by which you must spay your cat. The issuing organization usually require that you use the certificate for a specified animal and may limit the number of certificates your family can obtain.

Eligibility

Clinics and animal organizations raise the funds for free or low-cost spaying services through memberships, fundraisers and donations. These clinics and organizations have limited resources, so you need to meet eligibility criteria before qualifying for financial help. For example, the Humane Society Animal League for Life of Madison County only serves residents of Madison County. Generally, only low-income individuals can obtain financial help for cat spaying. You may need to fill an application form and present various financial documents that detail your household income level and financial assets.

Database

The ASPCA has a national database of clinics and organizations that can provide financial help for cat spaying. You only need to enter "Kentucky," your zip code or your city into the search box to get a list of clinics and organizations that may be able to help you. The database also shows you a map so you can easily determine which clinic or organization is located closest to you.

Spay/Neuter Month

If you wait until February to spay your cat, you may be able to get a lower price. Because February is Spay/Neuter month, various clinics and organizations in Kentucky may have special programs to financially help struggling cat owners. For example, in February 2011 several counties provided grants for clinics and organizations so cat owners can pay a lower fee for cat spaying. Boone County residents only had to pay $10 for the service, while Campbell County residents got a $10 discount.
