Dog Care Games

Dog care games involve bathing and other tasks.

Dogs require a lot of attention and care from their owners, who should not take their duties lightly when caring for a pet. No matter a dog's need, owners should attend to it in a prompt manner. Dog care games challenge players to keep pretend and virtual dogs happy in areas such as cleanliness, hunger, thirst, play time, toiletry and sleep, teaching humans to be good caretakers in real life.

Card Games

Kids try to adopt and care for the most dog figurines in Fisher-Price/Mattel's "Adopt-A-Dog," recommended for ages 3 and up. Children play the game in multiple ways, each requiring the most dog adoptions to win. Before adopting a dog, players must match one or three bone-shaped "favorite toy" cards to a single dog ID card. Once adopted, players put their dog in the bed shown on the dog ID card.

Computer Games

Teach commands and care for dogs in ArcMedia's "Easy Dog: Training & Care," available for various Windows systems. The interactive CD-ROM provides techniques and tips for puppy training and caring for older dogs. ArcMedia's "My Pet Dog" includes a quiz and trivia, pet care tips and rewards players with companionship and love for keeping dogs happy and healthy. Players choose from more than 101 puppies for adoption in PlayPets' "101 Puppy Pets," available for Windows and Mac systems. In a 3-D environment, teach puppies commands, reward them with treats and enter them in dog shows. Use earnings to buy puppies clothes, food, furniture and toys.

Online Games

Satisfy a dog's needs before time runs out in "Doggy Day Care," accessible at sites such as Games2Win.com. Press the arrows to move from room to room and click inventory items that the dog needs. The game ends if players give the dog the wrong quantity of an item or do not finish tasks within the allocated time frame. Keep a dog's satisfaction levels high in "My Cute Dog Cleo," found at sites such as Mary.com. To advance in the game, ensure that the health meter for the dog's needs appears green. The game ends if one health meter drops to zero. Also at Mary.com, "My Sweet Dog 2" requires players to satisfy all of Buddy's needs in a similar manner.

Pretend Play

Kids care for a plush chocolate or yellow lab with Cranium Bloom's "Let's Play Care For Puppy," recommended for ages 3 and up. Using the puppy activity book as a guide, kids take the puppy for a walk, teach the puppy commands and tricks and play hide and seek and catch with the puppy. After each trick, kids spin the spinner to determine a reward for their puppy. The playset comes with a puppy bed, bowl, brush, collar, tag and pretend food.

Video Games

Dora the Explorer needs help caring for Perrito in 2K Play's "Dora the Explorer: Dora Puppy," available for the Nintendo DS platform. Players bathe, feed and dress Perrito, and teach him to fetch, jump, sit and speak. Other activities include hide and seek and bubble popping, as well as participation in the "Big Puppy Competition." Also available on DS, THQ's "Paws and Claws: Dogs & Cats" and Ubisoft's "Petz: Dogz Pack" let players raise and care for dogs from newborn to adult. Monitor pets' cleanliness, health, mood and performance while teaching commands in "Paws and Claws," and experiment with breeding in "Dogz Pack."
