Train A Cat And Dog To Like Each Other Without Attacking

Cats and dogs can get along

Animals are wonderful creatures and it is always fun to have at least a couple in the house. Despite what you may think, you can teach your kitty and pooch to live harmoniously together in one household. The key to getting your feline and canine to get along has to do with the introduction. The following are tips to help train your cat and dog to get along without attacking each other.

Instructions

1. When you add a new pet to your household, there are several things to remember. Your older pet is the king or queen of the castle. Your new pet will be an intruder. You need to treat them that way for a little while. For example, if you have had your cat for awhile, then your cat will see the dog as an unwelcome guest. You should not let the new dog have the run of the household for at least a while. Give your cat and dog time to adjust to each other slowly. Keep the new pet in a bathroom or other room for a couple of weeks and allow the introductions to happen over a few days.

2. If you have your pets separated, make sure you allow them to visit each other, but only when you are able to supervise the visits. There are a couple of tips to help. Make sure you never scold either pet during the visits. If one or the other pets gets nasty, simply separate the two and say, "no." However, you want to make sure that these visits are pleasant for both pets. Have some favorite toys and treats on hand so the pets start looking forward to the visits.

3. When your pets get together, remember that enough is enough. When you start to notice that either pet is getting too rough, then it is time to separate. Never force the animals on one another. Your older pet will have a hard time learning to accept the newcomer.

4. Take the time that you spend with your pets and have fun with them. Your dog and cat can learn to tolerate each other when you make their playtime interesting and fun. Find games and toys that both with enjoy together and use this time for bonding with both.

5. It does take time and patience when you want your dog and cat to learn to get along. However, when you spend the time with them and introduce them to each other over a period of time, it will be easier for everyone. You can expect that it will take at least three to four weeks for this to happen.
