Donate Toys To Charity

If you have a surplus of toys in your home that are not being used, or if you'd like to purchase new and donate new toys, you can easily put a smile on a child's face.

Instructions

1. Ensure that the toys are in good condition.

2. Determine whether you would like to donate the toys to an individual family or if you would like to donate them to an organization. Providing the toys to a needy family, such as one in your community, church or school, can make the donation experience more personable, because you will know who you are donating to. You can also consider contacting a local homeless shelter to find out if you can deliver toys to the children who are going through a tough transition.

3. Research to determine what organization you would like to donate the toys to. Goodwill stores and similar donation sites offer donated goods at a low price. Some faternal organizations (such as Lions Clubs) will simply donate the toys to children for free. If you are unsure of whether or not an organization sells the toys, you should ask them for this information. If you have a lot of toys to donate, some organizations, such as the Salvation Army, will come and pick up the items from your home.

4. Ask the organization for a donation receipt to be able to claim the donation as a tax deduction. By having a receipt that reflects your charitable donation, you can provide evidence to the IRS that the donation was made.
