List Of Charities Catholics Cannot Give To

The Bible teaches that homosexuality is an abomination, according to the Catholic church.

Finding out which charities Catholics cannot donate money to can be a good idea if you believe in Catholicism or if you are interested in the limitations imposed by the religion. The Catholic church holds that the world was created by God in six days, and that the Bible is the word of God. Many different charities are off-limits to Catholics, including homosexual, sexual health, pro-choice and atheist organizations.

Homosexual Charities

Many charities promote homosexual rights, which is contrary to Catholic beliefs. Homosexual charities include the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice and the Point Foundation, which provides financial support for gay and lesbian students. The charities believe that gays and lesbians should have the same rights as anybody else, and therefore undermine the Catholic interpretation of the biblical message that homosexuality is an abomination.

Sexual Health Charities

Charities that promote sexual health generally support the use of contraceptives. The use of contraceptives is never explicitly banned in the Bible, but in Genesis 38:9-10, God kills Onan for spilling his seed on the ground, instead of in his brother's wife. This has been readily interpreted as God's disapproving of contraceptive methods, which can lead to recreational sex. Many charities, such as Planned Parenthood, promote the use of contraceptives to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS. These charities can be regarded as contrary to the messages of the Bible, and therefore should not be supported by Catholics.

Pro-Choice Charities

Pro-choice charities aim to conduct further research into abortion and provide personal and legal support for women considering abortion. These charities believe that a woman has the right to terminate her pregnancy in the early stages if she so wishes. Most Catholics vehemently disagree with abortion, and cite various Bible passages to justify this position. Generally, these relate to passages that state that life is sacred and that God creates children in the womb. In Exodus 21:22-23, God states that men who cause a miscarriage should be punished. This means that Catholics should not support charities such as NARAL Pro-Choice America Foundation.

Atheist Charities

Charities that openly deny the existence of God should not be supported by Catholics. Corinthians 6:14 states, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness?" This and many other passages from the Bible can be interpreted to mean that Catholics should not be associated with atheists, and should not support an atheistic cause. Charities such as Foundation Beyond Belief are openly non-Christian, and they donate a lot of money and resources to causes around the world. In March 2011, for example, the Foundation Beyond Belief collected over $11,000 to support the Japanese Red Cross in aiding the Japanese earthquake and tsunami recovery. Catholics should not donate to this charity and those that perform similar acts without belief in God.
