In order to provide background checks in Arkansas, you must have a private investigator's license. The Arkansas State Police is the regulating and administrating agency for private investigators, so you will obtain a license through ASP. They ensure that private investigators are performing lawful searches, which protects legitimate investigators. Private investigators perform a variety of tasks including background checks, searching for debtors and evidence of fraud and infidelity. Arkansas also recognizes the licenses granted by a few other states, making it easier to get a license in Arkansas if you already have a license granted from elsewhere.
Instructions
1. Complete at least two years of investigation experience with a currently licensed private investigator in Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, or Oklahoma. Document all investigation experience.
2. Contact the Licensing Division of the Arkansas State Police for information on the Arkansas state board exam and payment of fees. Submit documentation of investigative experience. Pay the fee for the initial license and the background check.
3. Take the state board exam. You are required to pass with at least 70 percent. Your licensing requirements are complete, and you can lawfully offer background checks in the state of Arkansas.
