Christian Adoption Grants

There are grants available for Christians who want to adopt.

According to Christian Advocates for Adoption, Christians have a moral obligation to show concern and compassion for orphans, and there are numerous Biblical scriptures that advocate adoption. Unfortunately, financial costs can prevent families from adopting. However, there are several grant programs available to Christian families who want to adopt. These grants help cover adoption expenses.

The ABBA Fund

The ABBA Fund is a prominent Christian organization that focuses on helping families adopt. Through the ABBA fund, couples can request financial assistance in any amount. Another organization that offers funds for Christian families is LifeSong for Orphans, which provides matching grants to families. A matching grant is a grant that is only awarded in an amount equal to what the family can provide financially.

Employer Funding

According to Christian World Adoption, families should also consider whether they can obtain funding through their employer. Increasingly, companies and government agencies offer adoption benefits to their employees. Adoption benefits through an individual's employer could cover agency fees, legal expenses, medical expenses and other fees related to the adoption.

Loans

Some financial institutions have special loans available for families seeking to adopt. For example, America's Christian Credit Union offers adoptions loans. According to America's Christian Credit Union, the average cost for an adoption ranges from $5,000 to $50,000. Loan programs help families cover these expenses.

Considerations

Families who want to adopt should also consider what types of adoption a grant program will fund. Some grant programs will fund only domestic adoptions. Others may provide funding for international or relative adoption. Furthermore, it isn't uncommon for a Christian grant program to provide grants only for two-parent families. For example, God's Grace Adoption Ministry does not offer funding for single-parent families.

The Process

Typically, families must fill out an application with the organization that provides the grant. A completed home study is required to achieve the right to adopt, and most funding organizations want to see a copy of the home study. A list of references is often needed as well. Eligibility for a loan is often judged on an individual basis and factors such as financial need are taken into consideration.
