Write A Grant Proposal For Funding

Writing a proposal can be a time-consuming activity.

Requesting a grant to fund a project requires more than just a good idea. First, you need to have a viable and articulate plan of how make a quantifiable social impact. This social impact can be measured in lives saved, people fed or academic research conducted. Secondly, you need to be able to persuade the granting agency that your project is really worth the money being requested. Fortunately, you can follow some simple steps to help you write a winning proposal.

Instructions

1. Define the problem or issue for which you are requesting money. For example, if you are setting up an animal shelter, then the problem you will address is animal homelessness. Estimate the number of dogs, cats and other animals your shelter will help in a month. Also, determine how much money you will need.

2. Involve all the stakeholders and try to secure the backing of the local community. In the case of the animal shelter, you can gather signatures of local animal enthusiasts, indicating their support for your project. You can also seek support of other animal welfare organizations in your area. Generally, the more people who back your project, the greater are the chances of receiving funding.

3. Clearly indicate how you will spend the grant money and exactly how you will execute your project. For example, provide estimates of the costs incurred to start the animal shelter. These can include rental costs for an appropriate space, hiring a vet, buying animal food and medicines and paying utility bills.

4. Supply any supporting documents, such as quoted prices for the animal shelter supplies. You can also include audited financial statements from other animal shelters in your area to support your cost estimates. To obtain financial statements, contact the animal shelters' owners or administrators.

5. Edit your proposal carefully for any typos or errors. Also, have someone else read your proposal before submission.
