Fun Volunteer Ideas

Animal shelters are always in need of volunteers.

Devoting time to volunteer work can help someone in need and make you feel good about yourself. There are many places at which you can volunteer, such as an animal shelter or an elementary school. Volunteering at a place that suits your interests and abilities can make the experience fun.

Animal Shelter

If you are an animal lover, helping out at an animal shelter is a great way to devote your time. Whether you bathe animals or clean cages, animal shelters are always in need of caring individuals who want to help. Employees will appreciate someone making their jobs a little less stressful. Volunteering at an animal shelter can also be fun because you will enjoy playing with many of the animals.

Elementary School

Read to children at an elementary school. Gather a couple of friends, arrange a day with the school principal and read to one of the classes. When children see you reading with enthusiasm, they will realize that reading can be fun. Ask the children questions about the book you read to test their reading comprehension.

Nursing Home

Contact the director of a nursing home to arrange a time for you and a few friends to visit with the residents. Read a book, play board games or simply talk to them. If the residents are more active, conduct an aerobics or dance class for them as a way for them to have fun.

Habitat For Humanity

Habitat For Humanity is a non-proft organization that builds homes for needy families. Contact your local Habitat For Humanity office and find out if there are any houses being built in your area. If not, decide if you are willing to drive to the nearest location. If you are not afraid of a little work, building houses to help struggling families may be your calling.
