Buy A Pet Turtle

It is fun to own and raise a pet turtle. However, some turtles just don't make good pets and you should be aware of this when you look to buy one.

Instructions

1. Decide the type of turtle you want. There are aquatic and non-aquatic turtles available.

2. Research your area to see where pet turtles are for sale. You'll find turtles in pet stores, but there are other places to buy a turtle at a cheaper price. For example, a reptile rescue shelter is a good place to adopt or buy a pet turtle.

3. Measure the turtle once you decide which one you want to buy. Buy a turtle that is larger than three to four inches because it is illegal to sell smaller turtles.

4. Purchase all of the necessary equipment for the turtle, such as an aquarium, rocks, plants, a heat light (if needed) and turtle food.

5. Ask questions. When you purchase your turtle, ask the sales clerk about how and when to feed the turtle, clean its aquarium, breed it and provide general overall care. You want your turtle to be healthy and happy, so ask as many questions as necessary.
