Animal Shelter Funding Grants

There are many organizations that provide funding for animal shelters.

Many animal rights and animal-loving organizations have created special funds to support animal shelters. Some of these earmark funds are used for building or supplies; others have funds specifically to pay for medical care. Together, these add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of shelters for homeless animals.

Buildings and Equipment

The Meacham Foundation Memorial Grant through the American Humane Association funds building projects and equipment with grants up to $4,000 for animal shelters. The Association's Second Chance Fund funds up to $2,000 for animal welfare shelters and other organizations that care for animals while they are waiting to be adopted.

Medical Care

PetSmart Charities has several grants for spay/neuter clinics, including spay/neuter equipment and money to support a free roaming cat spay/neuter program to pick up free roaming cats and spay or neuter them before releasing them again.

General Operations

PetSmart Charities has grants for shelters that have innovative approaches to volunteer programs. The Frank Stanley Beveridge Foundation has grants to benefit animal welfare, including shelters. Grants are decided on a case by case basis. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals changes its grant priorities from year to year but grants generally range from $500 to $5,000.

Location Specific Grants

Some grants are only for specific parts of the country. The Thomas C. Ackerman Foundation gives grants to qualified animal welfare organizations in San Diego. The Regina Bauer Frankenberg Foundation supports organizations that care for companion animals in New York City and surrounding counties.
