The Craigslist classified site offers an outlet to sell household goods, clothes, cars and more. You can find jobs, gatherings and pet information as well. Understanding how the Craigslist site functions will help you post your first ad successfully and protect you from having the ad flagged for spam, poor categorization or other concerns.
Start New Ad
Choose your local area from the side panel of the Craigslist homepage. Each location in the Craigslist database has its own unique site, and you should always post your ads on your local site for the best possible response. Click the "Post to Classifieds" link in the upper-left corner of the Craigslist website to access the new post panel.
Select Ad Placement
Your category assignment must be correct. Choose a category for your ad from the list that appears. Categories include: For Sale, Wanted, a housing categories and many others. Click the category link to open a new post input page.
Create the Ad
All posts must have a title, ad text in the main input field and your email address. Input your email address twice in the fields provided. If necessary, enter the price and location in the appropriate fields. Upload pictures if you have them by clicking the link under the ad text.
Confirm the Ad
Click "Continue" to review the ad in its current form. Choose "Edit" to modify the post if necessary. Click "Submit" if your ad is ready to publish. Avoid posting similar ads in multiple cities or categories, as this may result in users flagging your ads for spam. Watch for a confirmation email to confirm and publish the ad.
