The Tennessee Department of Children's Services is responsible for providing foster care licensing to individuals and families in Savannah. Tennessee foster parents can be single or married, should be 21 years of age or older, and have the ability to support themselves financially. Your home must also be large enough for the foster child or children in your care.


Instructions


1. Contact the Tennessee Department of Children's Services at 1-877-327-5437 and notify an agent that you would like to become a foster parent in Savannah. The agent will obtain your information and notify you of the next Parents As Tender Healers or PATH training pre-service course in the Savannah area.


2. Complete the PATH training pre-service program. The PATH program is a 30-hour training course that provides information on communication styles and the feelings that foster children may experience during the transition from a family home to a foster home.


3. Complete the home study with your case worker. The home study will include education for you and your family about becoming a foster family. You will also be required to provide information about yourself and your family to the case worker during the meeting.


4. Complete a written document including a description of the child you would like to foster, a medical release statement provided by your physician, financial statements, and the name, address and phone number of five personal references. The medical statement must provide information about your health status and can be provided by any licensed physician. After your references, medical information and home have been approved, you will be provided a certification to become a foster parent.
