Dallas Agility Training

Agility dogs require significant amounts of training.

Few cities are as agility-friendly as Dallas, Texas. Possessing state-of-the-art training and recreation facilities, the city will help provide your canine athlete with the essential tools to become successful in agility competition.

Training Centers

Dallas has three canine agility centers--Dallas Dog Sports (DDS), Top Dog Dallas and Gold Medal Dog Training Center. Dallas Dog Sports was established in 1995. DDS has three outdoor rings located on 7 acres of land and an indoor facility as well. There is an extensive list of champions that have been trained at DDS. Top Dog Dallas offers beginning and intermediate training classes on an ongoing basis. It includes an indoor and outdoor facility. Gold Medal Dog Training Center offers small class sizes geared toward beginners. In addition to agility, it also offers obedience, flyball and rally-o instruction.

Clubs

Dallas is home to the Dallas Agility Working Group (DAWG), the oldest active agility club in the United States. DAWG offers like-minded individuals the opportunity to train, travel and compete together. It hosts trials, workshops and seminars as well. It has staff trainers and invites guest trainers to host events and clinics. Trials are offered through the American Kennel Club, United Kennel Club and United States Dog Agility Association.

On Your Own

Dallas has stunning resources for do-it-yourself agility training. Possessing the first indoor dog park in the nation, Dallas offers ample training space. Unleashed Indoor Dog Park is a 50,000 square foot facility that offers an agility yard for trainers and owners to use. White Rock Dog Park is also located in Dallas and provides basic obstacles. It's an off-leash park with free admission.

Competition

Dallas Dog Sports and Dallas Agility Workers Group host dozens of trials a year. The smaller clubs in Dallas host at least one trial a year.

Caring for Your Agility Dog

While there are no agility-specific programs to help you care for your canine athlete, there are ample resources via vaccination clinics and spay/neuter clinics. Some veterinarians will offer discounted food to top agility dogs, and handlers/trainers receive discounts at club-sponsored events.
