Fundraising Ideas For Pet Sanctuaries

Pet sanctuaries are organizations which care for homeless animals until they find a home, or for animals who are unsuitable for adoption. Pet sanctuaries are non-profit organizations whose main source of income comes from donations. A good way to raise money for a pet sanctuary is to throw a fundraiser. Fundraisers also get the sanctuary's name out in the public eye effectively, raising awareness for the cause.

Sponsored Dog Walk

Hold a sponsored dog walk fundraiser. Arrange a short course for the participants to walk with their dogs and ask each participant to donate a set amount of money to the pet sanctuary. Get in touch with your local animal businesses such as pet stores, groomers and trainers, and ask if they would like to have a stall at your sponsored dog walk. Ask vendors for a donation to the sanctuary in return for allowing them a stall. Give each participant a souvenir for their donation, such as a T-shirt with the sanctuary's name printed on the front.

Pet Carnivals

Throw a pet carnival and charge a small amount, such as $5, for entry at the gate. Allow pet vendors to have stalls at your carnival and charge them for the privilege. Hold fun competitions involving pets and their owners, such as pet dress-up contests, pet talent shows and dog-owner lookalike contests. Have a stage on which to hold these competitions. A pet carnival is fun for all who attend, and will help get the sanctuary's name in the public eye.

Pet Fashion Show

Hold a pet fashion show at the sanctuary. Have all the adoptable animals participate in some way to increase their chances of finding a new home. Charge a reasonable amount for entry, such as $5. Ask the local pet boutiques to donate some outfits in exchange for free advertising at the fashion show.

Sponsored Dog Wash

Find some volunteers at the sanctuary who wouldn't mind getting wet, and hold a sponsored dog wash. Ask around at local bars and restaurants to find an outdoor patio to host it for free. Businesses will get free publicity from the event, so it is worth their while to donate their space. Buy some children's paddling pools in which to wash the dogs, and some dog shampoo. Charge owners a reasonable amount, say $10, for your volunteers to wash their dogs. Owners can relax on the patio and have a drink while their dog is being washed.

Fundraising Gala

Hold a fundraising gala for your current donors and prospective donors. Sell tickets at a moderate price, for example $30 each. Provide a sit-down buffet and drinks. Ask around to see if you can get a discount on catering in exchange for free publicity for the caterers. Have a formal dress code and hold events such as raffles and auctions. Proceeds from any events will benefit the sanctuary.
