Maryland Rescue Groups For Dogs

Many dogs are in need of help.

Stray and homeless dogs are a serious problem in Maryland and all other states. Dog rescue groups are made up of several volunteers who give their time to help dogs. Some rescues have shelters, while others keep the dogs in foster homes until they are adopted. To continue running, all rescues need donations in the form of money, supplies and time.

Dog Rescue of Maryland

Dog Rescue of Maryland is located in Pasadena and rescues all breeds of dogs. When room is available, they rescue dogs that are in shelters and are in danger of being euthanized. The group houses rescued dogs in foster homes until adoptive homes are found. The adoption fee covers all immunizations and any required medical care as well as sterilization.

All Breed Rescue

All Breed Rescue is funded only by donations and has no shelter facility. All dogs that are rescued by the group are kept in foster homes until adoptive families are found. The group has a strict adoption policy, which includes an application and a meeting with the dog and the entire adoptive family. A home visit is also required, as are possible follow-up visits. Puppies are not given to families with small children, and all animals must be indoor pets. The adoption fee includes vaccinations, deworming, flea treatment and sterilization.

K-9 Lifesavers

K-9 Lifesavers is located in Takoma Park and is a nonprofit rescue that removes dogs from high-kill shelters when they are in danger of being euthanized. The rescued dogs stay boarding facilities and foster homes. Adoption requires an application and a home visit. The adoption fee covers any needed veterinary care as well as immunizations, deworming, and sterilization if the dog is older than six months. Dogs that are living in foster homes prior to adoption are also given heart worm preventative and flea and tick treatments. Potential adopters who rent their homes must obtain written permission from the home owner before adoption.
