Buy A Pet Wolf

Most people buy dogs, cats or fish when they want a pet. Some want a pet that is a little more unique and get a snake or tarantula. But owning an exotic animal like a wolf as a pet can be an entirely different experience and one for which you must be fully prepared. Here are some things to remember when buying a pet wolf.

Instructions

1. Do your research. Before buying a wolf as a pet, educate yourself about all its special needs and requirements. Know how much space the wolf needs to live in, what kind of dietary needs it has and any illnesses or diseases it may be prone to.

2. Check local laws and regulations. Depending on where you live, there may be laws restricting what kind of exotic animals can be kept as pets. If you live in a suburb or well-populated area, you may not be permitted to have a wolf as a pet or you might be required to have special accommodations in your home for sanitation and safety reasons. These laws are in place for your safety and the safety of your neighbors and must be obeyed.

3. Locate a proper veterinarian. A regular veterinarian may not be able to adequately treat a wolf or advise you on its basic health needs. Many small animal veterinarians refuse to treat large or exotic animals because they are not properly trained to do so. Have access to a veterinarian who specializes in exotic and large animals who can treat your pet wolf properly.

4. Find a good breeder. A reputable breeder is as important when buying an exotic animal as it is when buying a dog or cat. Look online and compare breeders until you find one that has a good reputation. Visit the facilities to guarantee they are clean, spacious and well-maintained and that the stock is healthy and well cared for.

5. Know what a healthy wolf looks like. Prior to visiting breeding facilities and selecting a wolf pup, learn what signs of good health you should look for. A little research about wolves and talking to your veterinarian can help you determine what a healthy pup looks like and what kind of behavior is indicative of health and vitality.
