Set Up A Fishing Pole

Check out fishing stores in your area for advanced fishing equipment.

There's nothing like the anticipation of sitting at the end of a pier, fishing pole in hand, watching and waiting for your bobber to go under and a fish to bite your line. While there are many different types of fishing, such as fly- and deep-sea fishing, the simplest kind is freshwater, a great recreational sport. All it requires is a fishing rod, tackle, bait and place to catch fish. The following steps will show you the basic fishing equipment needed to set up a fishing pole for freshwater fishing.

Instructions

Setup Fishing Equipment

1. Attach your chosen reel to your fishing rod. Place the reel into the reel seat and tighten it. Be sure not to overdo it.

2. Spool the test line onto your fishing rod and reel. You can also purchase a reel that has the test line prespooled.

3. Thread the test line up through the holes in your fishing rod. Make sure you get a lot of slack in your line after threading it, so that you can easily attach the rest of the fishing equipment.

4. Slip your bobber stop onto the test line. The most popular bobber is a rubber stop that looks like a grain of rice with a hole at each end that the test line is threaded through. The bobber stop is necessary to keep the bobber from sliding past the depth that you choose.

5. Thread a small bead directly under the bobber stop. The small bead is necessary to keep the bobber stop from sliding down into the bobber when a fish is hooked and pulls on the test line.

6. Slide your slip bobber up the test line.

7. Thread the test line through the eye of the hook to attach it to your test line.

8. Clip two small split-shot sinkers to your test line using a pair of pliers. Clip them about 10 inches above the hook and an inch or two apart from each other.

9. Put your choice of bait on the hook and you're ready to start freshwater fishing. You can use an earthworm, a bee-moth, a minnow or a cricket. Keep in mind that your choices for bait are not limited to the ones mentioned.
