Donate Cars In Kansas City

You can donate your car in Kansas City instead of selling it.

Whether you live in Kansas City, Missouri or Kansas City, Kansas, you do not have to sell a car that you no longer want to keep. Instead, you can donate the car to a local charity in the Kansas City area. National charitable organizations, as well as local charitable organizations, accept car donations throughout the Kansas City area. Donating your car also allows you the chance to get a tax write-off by claiming the donation on your taxes.

Instructions

1. Request a duplicate title for the car if you cannot find your Missouri or Kansas car title. Complete the application for a duplicate title from the Missouri or Kansas Department of Revenue website (see Resources). Get the form notarized and submit it to your local Department of Revenue office location.

2. Look up the fair market value of your car to see what similar vehicles are selling for in the area. You can also check the value with Kelley Blue Book.

3. Find tax-exempt charities in the Kansas City area by using the online version of Publication 78 on the Internal Revenue Service website. Search by keyword, city or state. National charities in Kansas City that take car donations include the Salvation Army and the Glaucoma Research Foundation.

4. Contact the Kansas City charity you have selected to make arrangements for your car donation. If the charity does not have a drop-off center for car donations, they can arrange to have the car picked up from your home or other location.

5. Sign your car title over to the Kansas City charity when you make the donation. To claim the donation on your taxes, request a donation receipt when you sign over the title.
